Qualifying Courses
Qualifying courses are designed to ensure all students entering a Business Administration graduate program have foundational knowledge in key areas necessary for success within the specific program.

Qualifying courses do not have to be completed before application to a Business Administration program. If applicants are accepted to the program and have not completed the necessary qualifying courses they will be required to complete the courses prior to registering in more than one graduate level course.

If an applicant is accepted and is required to complete qualifying courses, the student has up to three years to complete their list of qualifying courses. Qualifying students can complete up to one graduate level course before completing all required qualifying courses. However, if a qualifying student elects to complete a graduate course before completing all qualifying courses, they forfeit the three years to complete qualifying courses and then have five to six years to complete all program requirements (qualifying and graduate courses).

Registration
All Business Administration graduate students are required to submit their registration form to the Graduate Program Advisor of the Faculty of Business Administration. The Associate Dean (Graduate Programs and Research) or the Program Advisor must approve all registrations. Once approved, the registration is forwarded to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research for final approval and processing.

Business Administration graduate students may register by email by emailing their request to the Program Advisor, however, requests over the phone cannot be accepted. If emailing registration requests, please ensure your full name, student number, and current address is included.

Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is available to Business Administration graduate students in the form of externally funded scholarships and internally funded scholarships, research assistanceships (RAs), and teaching assistanceships (TAs).

Externally funded scholarships have various eligibility requirements and deadlines. Students should consult each scholarship for further details.

Internally funded scholarships, RAs, and TAs, are funded by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research and allocated to the Faculty of Business Administration twice annually (Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer). To be eligible for this funding, students must be registered full-time, are not permitted to work more than 12 hours outside of the university, and in the case of a scholarship must have an average of 80% or greater. To apply for internally funded assistance, please submit a “Masters Candidate Application for Financial Assistance Form” and submit it to the Graduate Program Advisor in the Faculty of Business Administration.

Project
Students following the project option must prepare and present a substantial research paper on a suitable topic. Formal credit of 6 credit hours is given for completion of research project work.

Students wanting or needing to complete a research project should discuss topic ideas with the Associate Dean (Graduate Programs and Research) before beginning the project. The Associate Dean will work with the student to match the student with an appropriate faculty member to serve as project supervisor. The student and supervisor then determine a timeline and direction of the project. The project is an individual project and the student is expected to do all of the work associated with the project. The supervisor’s role is to provide guidance to the student and ensure the project meets academic standards of the Faculty of Business Administration.

Once the supervisor is satisfied and approves the completed project, a second faculty member must approve the project. Once two faculty members have approved, the student must present the project to the Faculty of Business Administration and fellow graduate students.

Students may register and receive credit for the first three credit hours of the project during any semester for which they are actively working on their project. Students must register for the last three credit hours of the project in the semester in which they present the project. It is the student's responsibility to provide the Faculty of Business Administration with two copies of the final project. Failure to do so will prevent the student from convocating.

Timeline
Candidates in all Master's degree programs are expected to work with reasonable continuity and complete their program within a period of six years starting from the time of first registration.

Business Administration qualifying students have three years to complete qualifying requirements, provided they do not complete a graduate level course. If a qualifying student chooses to complete a graduate level course, they then have 6 years to complete all qualifying and graduate level work.

Time extensions may be granted for a period of up to four (4) months, and are granted to students who encounter problems while actively trying to finish their programs. Students who are seeking an extension must make the request through their supervisor. The supervisor must provide a letter defining his/her perspective on why the work was not completed in the allotted time. Evidence of sufficient progress to warrant an extension, as well as a statement of what remains to be done, and the time-frame for its completion, are required in order for an extension to be granted. The letter and request are to be given to the Graduate Program coordinator for comment, who will then send all materials to the Dean of FGSR for consideration.

Transfer Credit

Transfer Credit is awarded when a student has successfully completed coursework at this or another accredited institution of higher education. This coursework may be transferred to the student’s program at the University of Regina and reduces the overall program and fees by the number of courses accepted.

▪  Transfer credit only applies to courses that have not been used to satisfy another academic credential.

▪  Transfer credit is not given for thesis/project work completed at another institution.

▪  Transfer credit will not be granted for any grade less than, or equivalent to, 70%.
