LIMITATIONS AND RESOURCES
This transcript reports the academic record of the student beginning with the 1984 Fall term. Find academic policy and procedures that support the Official Transcript in the Calendars (http://www.uregina.ca/gencal) and in Policies (http://www.uregina.ca/presoff/vpadmin/policymanual).
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
The language of instruction is English (Canadian) with the exception of the Baccalauréat en éducation and programs combined with the Bachelor of Arts (French).
ACCREDITATION
The University of Regina is a degree granting institution, chartered through an Act of the Saskatchewan Legislature. The University and its federated colleges, Campion College, First Nations University of Canada (formerly Saskatchewan Indian Federated College), and Luther College, are members of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
ADMISSION AND TRANSFER CREDIT
Undergraduate admission is based on requirements published in the Undergraduate Calendar; Graduate admission is based on requirements published in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research Academic Calendar. Transfer credit may be awarded by more than one Faculty towards more than one program.
CREDIT SYSTEM
Until the 1993 Winter term, a full undergraduate course load was 4 courses or 16 credit hours per term. From the 1993 Spring/Summer term onwards (1992 Fall for programs in Elementary Education, Vocational/Technical Education, the School of Journalism, and first-year Engineering), the minimum undergraduate full course load is 5 courses or 15 credit hours per term. Full-time undergraduate students are registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours. Normally for graduate students, the minimum full course load is 12
credit hours and full-time enrolment is 6 credit hours; for special cases, please check here. Prior to the 2002 Fall term, full-time graduate students were registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours. No minimums or maximums are set for other post-program graduate students including graduate students on extension or registered for internships.
GRADING SYSTEM
Since the 1984 Fall term, the University of Regina has employed a percentage grading system. A grade of less than 50% is a failing grade for undergraduate programs. A grade of less than 70% is a failing grade for graduate programs. Non-numeric grades are as follows:

F |

1Administrative grades are not included in the calculation of a grade point average or when determining the cumulative hours towards program completion. IN and DE indicates that an extension has been granted. IP is an interim grade for a one-term course taught over two terms; the final grade is applied to the second term of the course. NR is used when a course is ‘in progress;’ this includes courses with an end date beyond the normal end of term. CW is used when a student is not permitted to complete a course by a disciplinary ruling.
2AU, AW, and W grades are neutral.
The following grades are included when determining cumulative hours towards program completion. Grades of P, C, and AG are passing grades; F and N are failing grades. These grades have no numeric value therefore are not included in a GPA calculation.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE
In calculating a Grade Point Average (GPA), grades of 40% to 100% are used as recorded; a grade of NP and grades between 0% and 39% count as 40%; a grade of XF counts as 0%. For courses with these grades, the grade is multiplied by the weight; the products are added together and the resulting sum is divided by the sum of the weights.
The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is based on all University of Regina courses attempted. The term GPA (TGPA) displayed on this transcript is based on the CGPA calculation. Our graduate grade point average is the CGPA since admission to the Faculty, and the CGPA is displayed at the end of the graduate transcript.
The undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) uses the recent, second repeat of a course (upon appeal, students may be permitted to repeat a course a third time). Failed credit hours that have resulted in a period of discontinuance may be excluded given a “Fresh Start” or based upon appeal. Excluded grades are flagged with an asterisk on the left-hand side of the transcript. The most current UGPA, the calculation which governs undergraduate academic progress, appears at the end of the undergraduate transcript. The undergraduate total of cumulative earned hours includes UGPA hours and hours in passed courses with non- numeric grades.
The program grade point average (PGPA) includes courses that form part of a particular program. The undergraduate graduation average is a PGPA calculation. The graduate graduation average is a CGPA calculation.
CLASS SIZE AND AVERAGE
The count of students in the class excludes withdrawals but includes students with other non-numeric grades. The class average is based on students with a percentage grade or a grade of NP or XF.
ACADEMIC ACTION
For undergraduate students, from the 1984 Fall through to the 2001 Winter term, a requirement to discontinue (RTD) was based on annual or accumulated failed credit hours. During these years, only University-level RTDs are shown on the transcript.
Starting with the 2001 Spring/Summer term, the transcript indicates an undergraduate RTD after a period of academic probation. Undergraduate RTDs are based on a low UGPA. The transcript indicates three levels of academic action: a University academic probation or RTD, a Faculty RTD, and/or a Program RTD. See the relevant section of the Calendar: http://www.uregina.ca/gencal.
The minimum TGPA to qualify for a Dean’s Honours List is 85.0% on 12 numerically-graded credit hours. Some programs or Faculties require 15 credit hours.
More detailed disciplinary notations appear as of the Spring/Summer 2004 term, including the grade of XF. See: http://www.uregina.ca/presoff/vpadmin/policymanual/students/90101501.html
AWARDS
Until the 1999 Winter term, the date of an award indicates the term for which it was awarded; from the 1999 Winter term onwards, the date of an award is the date of the term in which it was held.
GRADUATION
A credential that does not have a conferral date has been approved but not yet conferred. For students who graduated before Fall Convocation 2000, graduation data is usually incomplete; graduation prizes before Spring Convocation 1999 are listed at the end of the transcript. The minimum graduation requirements for an undergraduate degree are: 60% PGPA for graduation, 80% for graduation with distinction, 85% for graduation with great distinction. The required graduation PGPA for many faculties and programs is higher than the minimum (consult the University’s Calendars). The minimum CGPA for graduation with a postgraduate
degree is 70%.
