The concept of a landscaped oval was included in campus
development plans for a number of years. The linden trees were planted
20 years ago in preparation
for the oval and have been incorporated into the design.
Fast Facts
Landscaping of the Dr. Lloyd Barber Academic Green cost $1 million.
The
oval-shaped academic green is lined with 90 linden trees and features
a custom designed 4.5-metre-wide sidewalk to accommodate pedestrian
movement.
Benches and new lighting add to the atmosphere in this newly designed
space.
Two staging areas have been developed at the south
and east ends of the Green, providing more convenient access to
services such
as electricity for staging events in the area.
Construction began in June
2003 and was complete by September 2003.
PCL-Maxam – a
joint venture of PCL Construction Management Inc. and Maxam Contracting
Ltd. – was the construction management
team. More information is available at http://www.pcl.com
Pedestrians
have full access to the Green and are welcome to enjoy the area,
a focal point for the campus.
