Pipe and Drum

The Conservatory of Performing Arts is pleased to offer lessons in Scottish Highland bagpipes and Highland drumming to adults and children. There are individual and group lessons available, and we also have available a youth pipe band program.

If you are already a member of another community pipe band, you can still increase your skill and enjoyment of the instruments through individual lessons at the Conservatory.

About the Band
The Conservatory of Performing Arts Pipe Band performs and competes in the Regina area and throughout the Prairie region. The band plays for community events, parades, bonspiels, and also in competition with other pipe bands at Highland Games events.

The Conservatory of Performing Arts Pipe Band has two branches: a beginner program and a band program.

The beginner program is for people no younger than 8 years of age, and the goal of the program is to train musicians to reach the performing band within the year. Pipers learn using the tutorial method developed by Scotland’s National Piping Centre, and the drummers use a program originally developed in BC for the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band program.

The band program is for pipers and drummers who are able to maintain the standards necessary for competition and performance.

Learn to Play
We are always looking for children ages 8-12 to learn the pipes and drums. The band teaches bagpipes, snare drum, tenor drum, or bass drum. We have Saskatchewan's most experienced pipe band instructors, including professional-level pipers and drummers.

The goal of the program is to develop in students the skills, attitude and desire to make them successful at their chosen instrument.

Beginner Bagpipes or Drums (Ages 8-12)

Children ages 8 and up will learn the basics of bagpipes or drums in a fun and supportive learning environment. The program includes basic music theory and sight reading for pipers and drummers. Students will need to purchase either a bagpipe practice chanter and tutor book, or drum sticks and a practice pad. These can be purchased through the Conservatory when the class begins.
