Certificate in Administration - Level I

Preparing for administrative career? Want to be more effective in your current position? Study towards your Certificate in Administration - Level I and you will: 

  • improve your analytical skills
  • develop your understanding of organizational behavior
  • understand the forces that shape management decisions; and
  • choose courses from a number of business areas that suit your interests.

The Certificate in Administration - Level I can stand on its own as an educational and professional achievement. It can also be the first step of a four-step journey through the Certificate in Administration - Level II* to the Diploma and then Bachelor of Business Administration degree. 

Students interested in the diploma or degree program should seek academic advising early in their program.

Program Requirements

Note: Most courses formerly referred to with the prefix ADMN are now referred to as BUS however the content and credit remains the same - BUS 210 equals ADMN 210. Courses are noted where this is not the case.

 

Required (core) course:

BUS 260 Introduction to Organizational Behaviour*  Pre-requisite: English 100

Electives: (any four of the following courses)

  BUS 205 Management Communication (Formerly ADMN 265)

BUS 210 Marketing

BUS 250 Introduction to Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations

BUS 285 Introductory Financial Accounting**

BUS 288 Introductory Managerial Accounting

BUS 307 Business Law

BUS 453 Strategic Human Resource Management (Formerly ADMN 353)

BUS 361 Management of Performance

ECON 100 Introduction to Economic Issues, or

ECON 201 Introductory Microeconomics, or

ECON 202 Introductory Macroeconomics. 

Note: Students can use only one economics course as a Certificate in Administration elective.

* The requirements for this course can be satisfied by taking these two classes:

CA 21 Organizational Behaviour I and CA 22 Organizational Behaviour II

These courses have no prerequisite.

** The requirements for this course can be satisfied by taking these two classes:

CA 24 Financial Accounting I and CA 25 Financial Accounting II
