The program will be of interest to those who seek to deepen their
understanding of what constitutes the spiritual and personal
well-being of others; it also provides an opportunity for those
wishing to increase their professional competence in a range of
areas that minister to these needs, including service in
lay-ministry, hospitals, hospices, schools and a variety of other
institutional settings.

Pastoral Studies 310
Introduction to Pastoral Studies
An introduction to pastoral studies. It
contains segments on the ministries of teaching, preaching, pastoral
care, organization and celebration with required seminar.
Pastoral Studies 320 Pastoral
Care
An introduction to pastoral care. Topics
include: counseling relationships, pastoral counseling in a parish
setting and in schools, pastoral counseling for adults and seniors,
counseling the anxious and depressed persons, alcoholics, the burnt
out, and the grieving.
Pre-Requisites: PAST 310, PSYC 101 or PSYC 102.
Pastoral Studies 330 Foundations
of Pastoral Care
The course aims to foster a theological
vision out of which one can minister to others. Topics include working
with Scripture, the Church and its mission, and ethical questions.
These are approached with an ecumenical sensitivity and outlook.
Pre-Requisites: PAST 310, one 100 level and one 200 level RLST
course.
Pastoral Studies 340
Contemporary Spirituality
This course will define the circumference of an adequate Christain
spirituality forom: (a) an individual and personal viewpoint: (b) a
broader historical focus; and (C) an academic stance that will supply
the tools for one's personal critical assessment.
Prerequisite: Permission of Director is required to register.
Pastoral Studies
390-395AA-ZZ: Selected topics in Pastoral Studies
This course will examine selected topics in Pastoral Studies in
some detail:. Topics may include: life-span development and
pastoral care, pastoral care in parishes, and pastoral care in
schools.
Prerequisite: None
Pastoral Studies 400 Pastoral
Studies Practicum
this is a required course for all students. With support from the
practicum supervisor, students will become directly involved in
pastoral counseling to clients in the community. This practicum is 80
hours in duration, however, the exact days or hours per day will be
negotiated between the student and the agency.
Prerequisite: PAST 310 and PAST 320

Admission Requirements:
The Applicant should:
A. Be interviewed by the director of the program.
B. Provide, for the director, a written statement of biography
explaining his or her interest in and general state of preparedness
for the program.
C. Exhibit, for the director, some preparedness for pastoral work
such as the completion of a lay-ministries program.
D. Provide, for the director, at least two written references
commenting on his or her suitability for pastoral work.
E. Be eligible for admission to the Credit Studies Division of the
Centre for Continuing Education --Grade XII or 21 years of age.
Previously admitted students will be required to apply for transfer to
CCE.
Students meeting the admission requirements may audit the pastoral
studies components of the program without credit.
