Conferences - U of R sponsored
In honor of the University of Regina's Showcase celebrations for National Aboriginal Day, the Faculty of Arts will be presenting a lecture. Carlos D. Londoño Sulkin, head of our Anthropology department, has recently published "People of Substance: An Ethnography of Morality in the Colombian Amazon". While focused on indigenous Amazonian people, the book addresses what Dr. Londoño calls a 'package' of cosmological beliefs and understandings of what it is to be a human being, versions of which are common throughout the indigenous Americas. Dr. Londoño will discuss how such a package, as part of social life, shapes what matters to individuals. This will be a great opportunity to examine cultural differences in morality, in our understandings of ourselves, and in our judgements of others.
