SASKATCHEWAN INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS
Applications are accepted from students from all Saskatchewan Independent Schools which adhere to the Saskatchewan Education curriculum. Applicants from independent schools will be required to have registered in, and written, any secondary school examinations administered by the Provincial Department of Education in subjects used towards graduation. Examination results will be given the same weight in the calculation of the admission average as if the applicant were attending a public secondary school.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM
Applicants presenting the IB Diploma for admission purposes shall be admitted on the basis of the Diploma if the overall score is at least 24 points. Students receiving two credentials simultaneously (the IB plus a Saskatchewan Secondary Level Standing) shall be admitted on the basis of the local credential.
Students completing individual International Baccalaureate courses at the higher level with a grade of 5 or better shall be granted a specific transfer credit. For students entering pre-professional programs, academic advising is essential. Students must contact the appropriate Dean's office at the University of Regina as other institutions may not recognize all International Baccalaureate courses as credits.
Official transcripts: It is the student's responsibility to have an official transcript of their IB results forwarded to the Office of the Registrar, University of Regina, SK, S4S 0A2, from the North American International Baccalaureate Headquarters, 200 Madison Avenue, Suite 2007, New York, NY 10016. Telephone (212) 696-4464 Fax: (212) 889-9242.
APPLICANTS FROM OTHER PROVINCES
The credentials of out-of-province applicants will be evaluated in accordance with the general standard set for Saskatchewan students. Students who have completed secondary school in other Canadian provinces must submit the standing shown below with the subjects required for the program to which they are applying:
Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Northwest Territories, Yukon - Grade 12
Ontario - Grade 13 or the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) with the following approved Ontario Academic Credits (OAC):
4 acceptable OAC's, including English, for admission to the faculties of Arts, Education, Fine Arts and Social Work;
3 acceptable OAC's, including English, Math and one of Biology, Chemistry, Geology or Physics for admission to the faculties of Physical Activity Studies and Science.
4 acceptable OAC's, including English, Math, Physics, Chemistry plus one other approved OAC or grade 12 course for admission to the Faculty of Engineering.
Quebec - College d'enseignment general et professionel (CEGEP) - Completion of at least one year (12 subjects) of university level courses.
Applicants from other countries seeking admission must submit both a completed Application for Admission form and original documents covering their present academic standing and should write to Admissions, Office of the Registrar or e-mail admissions.office@uregina.ca for detailed information concerning admission requirements for the faculty to which they seek admission. If the academic documents are not in English they must be accompanied by certified copies of an English translation.
Students with post-secondary education from an institution outside Canada and the United States who wish to seek transfer credit towards a University of Regina undergraduate program must apply to the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) for a Description of Course Work to be sent to the Admissions Office. The IQAS Assessment will be used as a tool by the University of Regina in determining transfer credits granted in the student's program.
The student is responsible for the cost of such an assessment. Applications for this service can be obtained by contacting the Admissions Office or IQAS, Alberta Advanced Education and Manpower, 4th floor, Sterling Place, 9940-106 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5K 2V1, telephone (780) 427-2655.
Special students are those who meet the entrance requirements of the University (the requirements for admission to the Faculty of Arts - except for Visiting Students) but who are not pursuing a degree at the University. There are three different types of special students:
Visiting Students are in programs at another recognized post-secondary institution and wish to take courses at the University of Regina for credit at their home institution. The student will be admitted as a "Special Visiting" student upon receipt of a letter of permission from a senior official at the institution in which the student is registered listing the courses the applicant has permission to take. The letter of permission must be sent to the University of Regina from the home institution, or provided to the Admissions Office by the student. Faxes are acceptable from the home institution.
Casual Students are those who wish to take courses but are not interested in a degree program. These students may take courses for which they have the prerequisites or with the permission of the head of the academic unit.
Non-degree Professional Students are those who wish to take courses in order to satisfy requirements for an external professional organization (e.g. PEng, Teaching Certificate, Psychiatric Nurse's Certificate). A one-time letter of permission from the professional organization is required.
These are students who may have admission granted on a temporary basis in the following cases:
Accelerated Students are those currently enrolled in a secondary school who wish to take a University course in an area of special interest or ability. Such students must present a letter of approval from their high school principal for each semester. These students may take one course per semester for which they have the prerequisite or with the permission of the head of the academic unit offering a given course.
Unclassified Students: All students are expected to apply for admission and submit required documents by the published deadlines. However, students who are at least 21 years of age prior to the beginning of the semester and who are unable to present acceptable documentation prior to registration may be admitted as Unclassified, for that semester only, to take a maximum of one course. Students who are not Canadian citizens must provide proof of Permanent Resident status. Students whose first language is not English must meet the English proficiency requirements of the University. Students who have been enrolled at another post-secondary institution in the past twelve months will also be required to provide proof of being in good standing at that institution.
All students admitted as Unclassified will be required to submit a formal Application for Faculty Transfer and all required documentation in order to continue at the University of Regina.
· Students who qualify for admission to the faculty of their choice must submit the required academic documents and be transferred to the faculty or to the Special Casual category within published deadlines before they will be permitted to register again.
· Those who do not qualify for admission to a faculty may submit an Application for Faculty Transfer and any documents requested within published deadlines and be considered for admission to the University Entrance Program.
Students admitted as Unclassified will not be permitted to apply or register more than once as Unclassified students.

Students wishing to enroll in the Department of Indian Education Elementary Program (BEd) or Bachelor of Education After Degree (BEAD) must first apply for admission and be accepted by the University of Regina. A letter of acceptance will be sent to the student by the University of Regina Admissions Office. Once accepted by the University of Regina, students must complete an application form available from the Department of Indian Education in order to be interviewed and accepted by the Department. Interviews are conducted for the Fall semester (September) only. Students who are accepted by the University of Regina for the Winter semester may take Arts/Science courses that fit their programs; but will not be interviewed until the following April or June.
There are TWO student intake periods, one in APRIL and one in JUNE for acceptance the following September. Enrollment in the first year of the Indian Education Program is limited in each intake. Completed applications for the FIRST intake period must reach the Department of Indian Education before APRIL 15. Completed applications for the SECOND intake period must reach the Department between MAY 1 and JUNE 15. Students applying during the FIRST intake period will be contacted by telephone to arrange an interview. Interviews will take place during the last two weeks of June.
The Department of Indian Education reserves the right to refuse admission even when the stated requirements for entrance have been satisfied.
Decisions on admission to the Department of Indian Education are based on the following criteria: 1) grade point average, 2) information submitted on the application form, 3) information presented during the interview, 4) information forwarded by the references.

The minimum admission average of 70% must be attained on both points 1 through 6 and on 1 through 7.
Applicants to the Faculty of Engineering, whose Grade 12 average on seven acceptable subjects is 70% or better may be admitted with one deficiency. The deficient subjects may be one of Chemistry 30 or Physics 30. The deficiency must be made up within the first two semesters.
While it is not required, students will find it an advantage to take high school calculus. Prospective engineering students should carefully note the prerequisite for MATH 110. It is quite possible that this prerequisite could result in the student needing an extra semester to complete requirements for the degree.
The Faculty of Engineering has a first-year enrolment limit of 200 students. Students will be accepted on final marks if they have graduated from high school or on an early conditional acceptance based on final marks plus mid-term marks if graduating in the following June. The students will be accepted if they have an average of 70% or higher. Those students with averages between 65% and 70% will be placed on a wait list and they will be accepted when and if space is available. Students who are given an early conditional acceptance, based on mid term marks, may not be accepted if their final marks are below 68%.
Those students who are admitted or conditionally admitted will be given a limited time - 10 days - to indicate that they are intending to register for fall courses. They will also be given limited time - 2 weeks - to register once the registration period is opened for them.
If a student has not made a positive response by the end of the acceptance period, it will be assumed that the student is not coming and the student who has the next highest average will be accepted from the wait list. If by the end of the second week of June the quota is not filled by students with averages of 70% or higher, students will be accepted first from the wait list and then on a first come first serve basis. An out-of-town student may register by phone or mail.

Students making such application will be granted conditional acceptance by the University and should then contact their respective faculty to arrange for counselling in order to register for courses for the Fall semester.
When final transcripts are available from the Saskatchewan Department of Education, (or equivalent), the student must have one official copy forwarded (as described above under Documents Required) to Admissions, Office of the Registrar. The deadline for submission is August 15. Photocopies of transcripts are not acceptable. Copies forwarded electronically from the Department of Education are preferred. If the student's standing has remained satisfactory, the conditional status will be removed from the admission. No student admitted on an early conditional basis will be allowed to remain in courses for the Fall semester (starting in September) unless the Office of the Registrar has the required final transcripts on file.
Students who are not eligible for admission on the basis of the final transcript will have their admission to the University reviewed; the admission may be revoked.
APPLICATION FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
Applicants who have a visual impairment may complete their undergraduate admission form in an alternate format. Contact the admissions office for further information.
Priority will be given to applicants who adhere to the deadlines for completed applications.

ADVANCED STANDING AND TRANSFER CREDIT
Pan-Canadian Protocol on the Transferability of University Credits
The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) have passed a resolution calling for a uniform protocol on the transfer of credits between Canadian universities. The University of Regina accepts the Pan-Canadian Protocol on the transferability of university credits.
The Protocol:
Given the importance of promoting student mobility across Canada at the university level; given the high quality and standards of all universities in Canada; given the evolving characteristics of the Canadian university student body where students are generally older, more mobile, and more likely to be forced by work-related or personal reasons to register in more than one university to complete their undergraduate work; given the need to reassure students that all course work satisfactorily completed in the first two years of university study will be considered for recognition of credit should they be granted admission at another university; and given the need to reassure students that the process of transferring to another university in Canada will not result in undue additional costs or in the need to repeat essentially equivalent previous learning experiences, the University of Regina undertakes to take the necessary measures to ensure that, all course work completed by transfer students during the first two years of university study in Canada (including the final year of studies leading to a diploma of college studies (DCS) in Quebec and the university transfer courses offered by community colleges and university colleges in British Columbia and Alberta) will be recognized and fully credited for the purposes of granting a degree provided that:
1. the transfer student is deemed admissible and has been presented with an offer of admission;
2. the transfer student has achieved a passing grade in his/her course(s) and has obtained grade levels that would normally be required of continuing students; and
3. the credits earned are related to the program of study in which the transfer student will register, or the credits can be counted as electives for the program of study.
University of Regina Transfer Credit Guidelines
The University of Regina accepts the principle that appropriate courses taken at colleges, technical institutes and other universities will be recognized for transfer credit. Transfer credit will also be granted to students in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program if a student has completed individual International Baccalaureate courses at the higher level with a grade of 5 or better. Students who have completed Advanced Placement (AP) exams with a grade of at least 4 shall be granted advanced standing (credit or placement) in approved courses. An official IB or AP transcript is required as part of the evaluation process. Further information with respect to the IB and AP programs is available from Admissions, Registrar's Office.
With respect to Bible Colleges, the University of Regina will grant transfer credit to students who have attended a college which is a member institute of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) or is affiliated with an AUCC member institution and accredited by the American Association of Bible Colleges (AABC).
The amount of credit may be limited depending upon the program in which the student chooses to enroll. The Admissions Office, in conjunction with the appropriate faculty, will determine what credit for advanced standing will be given. Most faculties at the university require that a substantial portion of the program (usually at least half) be taken at the University of Regina. The criteria for granting transfer credit may vary from one faculty to another. Some require minimum grades for transfer while others will not consider courses completed prior to a certain date.
Therefore transfer credit that is acceptable to one faculty may not be acceptable to another. Students should consult the appropriate section of the calendar in order to ascertain the transfer credit regulations of their chosen faculty.
Grades obtained in courses taken at other universities are not included in calculating the grade point average for graduation except where such courses are required to be taken at the other institutions as part of a University of Regina program. Grades obtained in courses taken at other institutions may be used for assessing admission to a faculty or program or for other purposes.
Students who seek admission to any faculty of the University of Regina with advanced standing must submit a calendar of the university, if outside Canada, at which they have previously studied as well as a copy of each course description. If the material is in a language other than English or French, a notarized original translation must accompany the documents.
1 For students who graduate from Grade 12 in 1999/2000 or 2000/2001, the two English credits may be selected from any two of English A30, B30, English Language Arts A30 or B30 (subject to approval by Senate).
2 Students planning to take Pre-administration must have credit for Mathematics A30 and B30.
3 For additional criteria for admission to Faculty of Education, refer to EDUCATION SECTION. For some programs, Mathematics is required.
4 Must include one science from Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Geology 30 or Physics 30 and one math from Calculus 30, Mathematics 30, Mathematics A30, B30 or C30.
5 The fifth admission requirement for the Faculty of Science is one of Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Physics 30.
6 For additional criteria for admission to the social work program, refer to the FACULTY OF SOCIAL WORK SECTION.
7 Students applying to the Baccalauréat en éducation programs may be admitted without English A30 and B30 provided that they have the equivalent courses taken in French within their secondary program.
8 Students who have completed or are completing the pre-journalism stage must apply for admission to the School of Journalism for the final two years of the program. Students with a previous degree also must apply for admission to the School. The degree must have been conferred prior to the application deadline. The application deadline is January 31. Information on application procedures is available from the School of Journalism or the Admissions Office.
9 The Teacher Education Admission Profile must be submitted by all applicants. Information on application procedures is available from the Faculty of Education or the Admissions Office for the BEd (Elementary), the BEd (Secondary), the BEd (Arts Education) and the Baccalauréat en éducation (élémentaire et secondaire). Applications received after February 15th will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis until enrolment is filled.
