Applicants from other countries seeking admission must submit a completed Application for Admission form, proof of English proficiency (as required) and original documents covering their present academic standing. Applicants should write to Admissions, Office of the Registrar or e-mail international.admissions.office@uregina.ca for detailed information concerning admission requirements for the faculty to which they seek admission. If the academic documents are not in English they must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
Students with post-secondary education from an institution outside Canada and the United States who wish to seek transfer credit towards a University of Regina undergraduate program may be required to apply to the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) for a Description of Course Work to be sent to the Admissions Office. The IQAS Assessment will be used as a tool by the University of Regina in determining transfer credits granted in the student's program.
The student is responsible for the cost of such an assessment. Applications for this service can be obtained by contacting the Admissions Office or IQAS, Alberta Advanced Education and Manpower, 4th floor, Sterling Place, 9940-106 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5K 2V1, telephone (780) 427-2655.
VISITING, EXCHANGE, PROFESSIONAL, ACCELERATED, AND CASUAL STUDENTS
Visiting Students are in programs at another recognized post-secondary institution and wish to take courses at the University of Regina for credit at their home institution. The student will be admitted as a visiting student upon receipt of a Letter of Permission from a senior official at the institution in which the student is registered listing the courses the applicant has permission to take. The Letter of Permission must be sent to the University of Regina from the home institution, or provided to the Admissions Office by the student. Faxes are acceptable from the home institution.
Exchange Students are in programs at another recognized post-secondary institution with which the University of Regina has a formal agreement for exchange of students. Application forms are available at the home institution. The normal maximum length of a student exchange should be two semesters. An inbound student who is coming for one semester may extend the exchange for a second semester upon approval from the home institution, provided that the terms of agreement allow for a two-semester exchange. No extensions are possible if the terms of agreement allow only for a one-semester exchange. Extension of exchanges for outbound students should be determined the same way and would require consent of the student's faculty.
Non-degree Professional Students are those who wish to take courses in order to satisfy requirements for an external professional organization (e.g. PEng, Teaching Certificate, Psychiatric Nurse's Certificate). A one-time letter of permission from the professional organization is required.
Accelerated Students are those currently enrolled in a secondary school who wish to take a University course in an area of special interest or ability. Such students must present a letter of approval from their high school principal for each semester. These students may take one course per semester for which they have the prerequisite or with the permission of the head of the academic unit offering a given course.
Casual Students are those who wish to take courses but are not currently interested in a degree program. Students apply and are registered at the Office of the Registrar. The following regulations govern the Casual Student Program:
· Applicants must be 18 years of age or a high school graduate.
· Applicants are not eligible for admission to this program if they have been required to discontinue by the University of Regina or any other postsecondary institution.
· Proof of English Language Proficiency is required if the applicant's first language is not English.
· Transcripts are not required for admission unless the applicant is under 18, or a desired course has prerequisites. Transcripts can be unofficial and are accepted directly from the student.
· Academic advising is not required, but is available from First-Year Services on request.
· Students may register for one or two courses per semester only.
· Registration for casual students begins after waitlists drop (see page 2). Not all courses are open to casual students.
· Academic performance of casual students is evaluated following each semester. In order to continue in the program, students must pass all courses; only one grade under 60% is permitted while in the program. Students who fail a course or receive a second grade under 60% will be required to discontinue from the program, however, this RTD will not appear on the student's transcript.
· Students may remain in the program for a maximum of 30 credit hours.
· Students may apply to a faculty or another program at any time, and must meet the admission regulations then in effect, including provision of official transcripts. The new faculty will evaluate the transferability of courses completed while in the program.
In addition to general admission requirements, the following apply to individual faculties:
Students must successfully complete a pre-administration year through the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Science. Students planning on entering the pre-Administration program must have Mathematics B30 (or equivalent) with a grade of at least 65% to be eligible to take the required pre-Administration mathematics course.
Students who require Administration courses for completion of a professional designation (i.e. CA, CMA, CGA, CIM, etc.) may apply for admission to Administration as a Non-Degree Professional student. A one-time letter of permission from the professional organization is required. Students in this category cannot obtain a University of Regina certificate, diploma or degree, nor can they complete the pre-administration requirements, while in this category.

Once accepted by the University of Regina, students must complete an application form available from the Department of Indian Education in order to be interviewed and accepted by the Department. Interviews are conducted for the Fall semester (September) only. Students who are accepted by the University of Regina for the Winter semester may take Arts/Science courses that fit their programs; but will not be interviewed until the following April or June.
There are TWO student intake periods, one in APRIL and one in JUNE for acceptance the following September. Enrolment in the first year of the Indian Education Program is limited in each intake. Completed applications for the FIRST intake period must reach the Department of Indian Education before APRIL 15. Completed applications for the SECOND intake period must reach the Department between MAY 1 and JUNE 15. Students applying during the FIRST intake period will be contacted by telephone to arrange an interview. Interviews will take place during the last two weeks of June.
The Department of Indian Education reserves the right to refuse admission even when the stated requirements for entrance have been satisfied.
Decisions on admission to the Department of Indian Education are based on the following criteria: 1) grade point average, 2) information submitted on the application form, 3) information presented during the interview, 4) information forwarded by the references.

The Faculty of Engineering has a first-year enrolment limit of 200 students. Students will be accepted on final marks if they have graduated from high school or on an early conditional acceptance based on final marks if graduating in the following June. The students will be accepted if they have an average of 70% or higher. Those students with averages between 65% and 70% may be accepted if and when space is available. Students who are given an early conditional acceptance may not be accepted if their final marks are below 68%.
Those students who are admitted or conditionally admitted will be given a limited time - 10 days - to indicate that they are intending to register for Fall courses. They will also be given a limited time of 2 weeks to register once the registration period is open for them.

A student who has failed 15 or more credit hours of courses taken while registered in another faculty or at another university will not be admitted to the Faculty of Science except by permission of the Dean.
Applicants with Secondary Level Standing must meet the admission requirements of the Faculty of Arts. The changes to the Admission requirements for the Faculty of Arts will also apply to the Faculty of Social Work effective Fall 2002 (refer to the Faculty of Arts section). Students who are admissible will be admitted as Social Work Qualifying. Qualifying students can register for university courses and then apply to the BSW by the subsequent application date.
Applicants with post-secondary education must apply to the University of Regina prior to applying to the BSW.
Application dates for the BSW are September 15 and January 15. For additional information refer to Faculty of Social Work section on page 2 of this calendar.
SIFC Social Work
In addition to meeting the admission requirements of the Faculty of Arts, SIFC requires that social work applicants be approved by their Admissions Committee. For further information, contact SIFC Social Work in Saskatoon at (306) 931-1800.
All new students must apply for admission.
Students who attended the University of Regina prior to September 1964 (then the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus) and who have not attended since that date must complete an application for admission to the University of Regina.
A student must be admitted before registering in courses.
Re-Admission:
A previous University of Regina student must apply for re-admission:
· after a voluntary absence of six semesters or more (Spring/Summer shall be counted as a semester), or
· after attending another post-secondary institution, or
· after having been required to discontinue because of unsatisfactory academic standing, or
· after having been suspended for disciplinary reasons.
Students wishing to continue studies in a different faculty must complete an Application for Re-admission or Transfer. Such students will be required to meet the entrance requirements of the faculty to which they wish to transfer.
APPLICATION FEE (Subject to change)
All new undergraduate applicants applying for admission to the University of Regina must submit a $60.00 non-refundable application fee with their application. Payment may be made by Visa or MasterCard by completing the Credit Card Payment section of the application form. Payment may also be made by cheque or money order, payable to the "University of Regina". Please do not send cash through the mail. A fee is not required from students applying for re-admission or faculty transfer.
The following documents are required to support an application for admission/re-admission/faculty transfer prior to acceptance. Documents submitted become the property of the University of Regina and are not returnable. Transcripts received cannot be provided to other institutions.
If documents are in a language other than English or French, a notarized original translation must accompany documents.
1. High School Statement of Standing: New students who have completed their high school education in the Province of Saskatchewan must submit one official statement of Saskatchewan Secondary Level Standing which may be obtained from the Saskatchewan Department of Education, 1500 - 4th Avenue, Regina, SK. S4P 3V7. Copies forwarded electronically from the Department to the Admissions Office are preferred. Students who have completed high school education outside the Province of Saskatchewan must submit one official transcript of their academic standing. Photocopies or faxed copies are not acceptable.
2. Post-Secondary Statement of Standing: Students who have previously attended another post-secondary institution (e.g. college, teachers' college, or another university) must have two final official transcripts forwarded directly from the institution attended to Admissions, Office of the Registrar, University of Regina. Photocopies of transcripts, faxed transcripts, and transcripts issued to students are not acceptable.
3. Letter of Permission: Students wishing to apply University of Regina credits to a post-secondary institution other than the University of Regina must have a letter of permission from that institution, listing the courses the applicant has permission to take. This letter may be provided by the student or the home institution to Admissions, Office of the Registrar, University of Regina. This letter must be received by Admissions prior to the applicant being admitted to the University of Regina. Faxes are acceptable from the home institution.
4. Proficiency in English: Please refer to the Proficiency in English section on page 2.
5. Documents Unavailable: Students wishing to apply for admission who are unable to obtain all or some of their academic documents for reasons beyond their control may apply for special consideration from the Admissions Office. Such students should submit a letter outlining their qualifications and the reason why missing documents cannot be submitted.
Students who anticipate completing Saskatchewan Secondary Level Standing or a satisfactory equivalent in June can apply for early conditional admission. Their application for admission must be supported by two copies of their high school academic transcript or by the University of Regina Early Conditional Acceptance form, signed by their high school principal or guidance counsellor; these documents must record expected date of graduation, complete registrations for Grade 12, and results to date for 20- and 30-level courses (see next paragraph). Forms are available from the Admissions Office (585-4591), or from high school guidance counsellors.
To be considered for early conditional admission, students must present a minimum of two final 30-level grades, or (for those high schools using a full-year curriculum) all end-of-January grades, in courses required for admission to their chosen Faculty (refer to the Admission Requirements table on page 2). They must be registered for the remaining courses required for admission. Conditional admission decisions are based on the average of all available grades in courses required for admission. The minimum average required for conditional admission to most faculties is 65%, but in quota faculties such as Education and Engineering it may be higher.
Students who have received a letter from the University granting conditional admission should contact their faculty or federated college office to arrange for advising and registration in courses for the Fall semester, which begins in September. Registration for students granted early conditional admission begins on May 15.
When final transcripts are available from the Saskatchewan Department of Education (or equivalent), students must have one official copy (as described above under Documents Required) sent to the Office of the Registrar. The deadline for receipt of transcripts in the Office of the Registrar is August 1. Photocopies of transcripts are not acceptable. Copies forwarded electronically from the Department of Education are preferred. Registrations of students who do not supply an official transcript by the deadline will be cancelled and their admission revoked.
An exception to the deadline for receipt of transcripts will be made for students applying for Fall admission who are writing departmental examinations in August or completing summer school, and for students applying for Winter who are taking an accelerated Fall semester. It is their responsibility to contact the Admissions Office (306-585-4591) before the transcript deadline, and arrange for SaskEd to send the transcript electronically as soon as results are available.
Once the official transcript is received, students are re-evaluated for final admission. No letter is issued unless a student no longer meets the admission requirements of the faculty or program, in which case admission will be revoked. Students will be notified in writing if this occurs.
Students who are not eligible for early conditional admission will be considered for regular admission upon receipt of an official final transcript as outlined above.
APPLICATION FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
Applicants who have a visual impairment may complete their undergraduate admission form in an alternate format. For further information, contact the Co-ordinator of Special Needs Services.
ADMISSION AFTER INVOLUNTARY DISCONTINUANCE FROM ANOTHER POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTION
A student who has been required to discontinue studies at another institution is eligible to apply for admission to a faculty at the University of Regina. The student will write a letter of petition to the faculty of choice, which will decide whether or not the student is admissible and the conditions of continuation. The decision of the faculty is final.
When a student has been admitted, and the University later receives a transcript showing an undeclared involuntary withdrawal from a previous institution, the student's admission and registration may be revoked.
RE-ADMISSION AFTER INVOLUNTARY DISCONTINUANCE (RTD) FROM A FACULTY OR PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF REGINA
Students who have been required to discontinue from a program and who wish to change programs within the same faculty must consult their faculty on application procedures. Students who have been required to discontinue by a faculty or program and who wish to transfer to a program in a new faculty must submit a letter of petition to the new faculty and an Application for Re-Admission or Transfer form to the Admissions Office. The application must be approved by the new faculty before the student will be admitted; the decision of the faculty is final.
RE-ADMISSION AFTER INVOLUNTARY DISCONTINUANCE (RTD) FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF REGINA
After completing a period of discontinuance, students may apply for readmission to the original program or faculty, or apply for transfer to a new program or faculty. Applicants must submit a letter of petition to their chosen faculty and an Application for Re-admission or Faculty Transfer to the Admissions Office. The decision of the faculty on readmission or transfer, and on any condition for continuation, is final.
Applications for re-admission or faculty transfer following a requirement to discontinue indefinitely from the University will not be considered until a minimum of two years has elapsed since the start of the period of discontinuance.
See page 2.
ADVANCED STANDING AND TRANSFER CREDIT
PAN-CANADIAN PROTOCOL ON THE TRANSFERABILITY OF UNIVERSITY CREDITS
The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) has passed a resolution calling for a uniform protocol on the transfer of credits between Canadian universities. The University of Regina accepts the Pan-Canadian Protocol on the transferability of university credits.
The Protocol:
Given the importance of promoting student mobility across Canada at the university level; given the high quality and standards of all universities in Canada; given the evolving characteristics of the Canadian university student body where students are generally older, more mobile, and more likely to be forced by work-related or personal reasons to register in more than one university to complete their undergraduate work; given the need to reassure students that all course work satisfactorily completed in the first two years of university study will be considered for recognition of credit should they be granted admission at another university; and given the need to reassure students that the process of transferring to another university in Canada will not result in undue additional costs or in the need to repeat essentially equivalent previous learning experiences, the University of Regina undertakes to take the necessary measures to ensure that, all course work completed by transfer students during the first two years of university study in Canada (including the final year of studies leading to a diploma of college studies (DCS) in Quebec and the university transfer courses offered by community colleges and university colleges in British Columbia and Alberta) will be recognized and fully credited for the purposes of granting a degree provided that:
1. the transfer student is deemed admissible and has been presented with an offer of admission;
2. the transfer student has achieved a passing grade in his/her course(s) and has obtained grade levels that would normally be required of continuing students; and
3. the credits earned are related to the program of study in which the transfer student will register, or the credits can be counted as electives for the program of study.
UNIVERSITY OF REGINA TRANSFER CREDIT GUIDELINES
The University of Regina accepts the principle that appropriate courses taken at colleges, technical institutes and other universities will be recognized for transfer credit.
With respect to Bible Colleges, the University of Regina will grant transfer credit to students who have attended a college which is a member institute of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) or is affiliated with an AUCC member institution and accredited by the American Association of Bible Colleges (AABC).
The amount of credit may be limited depending upon the program in which the student chooses to enroll. The appropriate faculty, in conjunction with the Admissions Office, will determine what credit for advanced standing will be given. Most faculties at the university require that a substantial portion of the program (usually at least half) be taken at the University of Regina. The criteria for granting transfer credit may vary from one faculty to another. Some require minimum grades for transfer while others will not consider courses completed prior to a certain date.
Transfer credit that is acceptable to one faculty may not be acceptable to another. Students should consult the appropriate section of the calendar in order to ascertain the transfer credit regulations of their chosen faculty.
Grades obtained in courses taken at other universities are not included in calculating the grade point average for graduation except where such courses are required to be taken at the other institutions as part of a University of Regina program. Grades obtained in courses taken at other institutions may be used for assessing admission to a faculty or program or for other purposes.
Students who seek admission to any faculty of the University of Regina with advanced standing must submit a calendar of the university, if outside Canada, at which they have previously studied as well as a copy of each course description. If the material is in a language other than English or French, a notarized original translation must accompany the documents.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE AND ADVANCED PLACEMENT
Transfer credit will be granted to students in both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) programs. Students who have completed individual International Baccalaureate courses at the higher level with a grade of 5 or better or Advanced Placement (AP) exams with a grade of at least 4 shall be granted transfer credit in approved courses. An official IB or AP transcript is required as part of the evaluation process. Further information with respect to the IB and AP programs is available from the Admissions Office.
