The University's Building Evacuation Policy (Policy 70.70) is outlined below and can be found in the online Policy and Procedures Manual on the University's Home Page.
The University is concerned with the safety of every student, employee, resident and visitor to the University of Regina.
It is University policy that a building be evacuated upon the sounding of the fire alarm system. Those individuals who do not evacuate immediately are subject to administrative or academic discipline. In the case of residents in College West or the Language Institute, the tenancy could be terminated.
Building Evacuation During Final Examinations
If the evacuation alarm sounds, proctors and students must vacate the building and assemble together in the designated place, following the directions of the fire wardens. Depending on the nature of the examination, and the time and length of the interruption, proctors have two options:
1. Cancel the examination paper, dismiss the students, and contact the Registrar to set a new date for the final examination (times are available towards the end of the schedule).
2. Keep the students together and silent until the building can be re-entered. Resume the examination, extending the end-time of the examination by the length of the interruption. This will only be an option if the interruption lasts no more than one hour (to avoid conflict with the start-time of other examinations). Students who are unable to stay beyond the advertised end-time (e.g, because of childcare arrangements or work commitments) should be recommended to their faculty for a deferred examination.
Building Evacuation During Mid-term Examinations
Instructors may resume the examination, if time allows, as described above; or may cancel the paper and set a new one for another class period; or may cancel the paper and transfer the weight of the mid-term to another mid-time or to the final examination.
The University of Regina is committed to employment equity for aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons who because of their race or colour are a visible minority in Canada, and women.
Enquiries may be directed to the Employment Equity Manager, Human Resources, AH 206.3, telephone (306) 585-5627.
HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION PREVENTION POLICY
The University of Regina policy on harassment and discrimination states that all members of the University community are entitled to a professional working and learning environment free of harassment and discrimination. Harassment and discrimination are prohibited in human rights legislation on the following "grounds": race; creed; religion; colour; sex; sexual orientation; receipt of public assistance; physical size or weight; and age. The University policy also prohibits personal harassment which is objectionable, threatening or initimidating, and unwanted behaviour towards another person or group of people that is not based on a prohibited ground.
This policy replaces and incorporates the previous Sexual Harassment Policy and the Racial Harassment Policy.
Action taken to stop harassment and discrimination that has occurred will include a wide range of disciplinary measures, up to and including dismissal or expulsion.
For confidential advice and information, contact the Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Office, Room 215 Dr. William Riddell Centre, telephone (306) 585-5400 or any university administrative officer (deans, directors, vice-presidents and president). University administrators who are infomed of harassment complaints will inform the Harassment and Discrimination Prevention office of the situation.
The intent of the University of Regina inclusive language policy is to ensure a broad representation of people in written, visual, and oral communication; to stress the ability rather than the disability of individuals; to treat men and women with the same dignity, respect, and seriousness; and to ensure that material that may be considered biased is treated critically.
Enquiries may be directed to the University Secretary, AH 514, telephone (306) 585-4383.

NOTIFICATION OF DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION TO STATISTICS CANADA
Statistics Canada is the national statistical agency. As such, Statistics Canada carries out hundreds of surveys each year on a wide range of matters, including education.
It is essential to be able to follow students across time and institutions to understand, for example, the factors affecting enrolment demand at post-secondary institutions. The increased emphasis on accountability for public investment means that it is also important to understand `outcomes'. In order to carry out such studies, Statistics Canada asks all colleges and universities to provide to Statistics Canada student identification information (student's name, student ID number, Social Insurance Number), student contact information (address and telephone number), student demographic characteristics, enrolment information, previous education, and labour force activity.
The Federal Statistics Act provides the legal authority for Statistics Canada to obtain access to personal information held by educational institutions. The information may be used only for statistical purposes, and the confidentiality provisions of the Statistics Act prevent the information from being released in any way that would identify a student.
Students who do not wish to have their information used are able to ask Statistics Canada to remove their identification and contact information from the national database.
Further information on the use of this information can be obtained from Statistics Canada's web site: http://www.statcan.ca or by writing to the Post-secondary Section, Centre for Education Statistics, 17th Floor, R.H. Coats Building, Tunney's Pasture, Ottawa, K1A 0T6.

UNIVERSITY OF REGINA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Alumni Association was established in 1974 to promote the accomplishments and support the development of the University of Regina, its students and alumni. This is reflected in the Alumni Association's vision statement: "We are the leading proponent of our University and our alumni throughout the world." Membership is automatic to all who have been granted a degree or certificate from the University. The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors who are elected by the membership.
The Alumni Association is an active participant in the University. Through its many fundraising activities, the Association has established a number of worthwhile funds and scholarships. These include the Children of Alumni Scholarship, the Dr. John Archer Scholarship, the Bert Fox/Ferguson U of R Alumni Entrance Scholarship, the Dr. George and Helen Ferguson Alumni Entrance Scholarship, the Ferguson Alumni Scholarship for Physical Activity Studies, the Wells International Study Award and the Senate District Scholarships.
Following each Spring and Fall Convocation, the Alumni Association honours the achievements of those who have graduated by hosting a Convocation Brunch. The Association also recognizes University faculty through its awards of excellence in undergraduate teaching, research and public service, and honours its own with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.
For information on programs and services for alumni, or volunteer opportunities, contact Alumni Relations at (306) 585-4503 or 1-877-779-4723 or visit the Web site at www.uregina.ca/alumni.

This service is available Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight. During `off hours', Campus Security will assist with walks. "Safety in Numbers" is the theory behind this program which is designed to make people on campus feel more comfortable walking alone. Students have been hired and will work in pairs to walk people to their car, bus stop, office, etc. and to areas immediately adjacent to the University (particularly the apartments adjacent to the Kramer Blvd. area). There is no charge for the service and everyone is encouraged to call for a "Walk Along". You can contact the Walk Along program by calling 5600 from a campus phone or press the speed dial button labeled "Walk Along" on any campus SaskTel payphone (no coin required). Campus Security can also be accessed by these buttons. When students are not walking with people, they will be walking around campus being "observers" reporting any suspicious events, etc. to Campus Security.
WISURD (Whiz into Student University of Regina Directory) is available to students to provide:
1. Access to University of Regina Records (grades, enrolments, etc.)
2. List of your transfer credits
3. Your University of Regina account (fees owing, etc.)
4. Course and Examination Timetables.
Dedicated computer terminals are also available in various locations around the campus. For information on terminal locations or home computing access using a modem, contact the Information Services HelpDesk, (306) 585-4062.
