The mission of the Language Institute of the University of Regina is twofold: first, to provide opportunities for the French-speaking community of Saskatchewan to pursue postsecondary studies in French and to retain its language and culture; second, to teach French as a second language and other languages of importance to Canadians, as well as English to the University's international students through the Centre for English as a Second Language. The Language Institute is dedicated to providing a supportive learning environment to its students.
The Institute has made it a priority to pursue research in both language teaching and learning. In pursuit of its teaching, research, and community roles, the Institute has pledged to work collaboratively and cooperatively with internal university and external community stakeholders.
L'Institut soutient la recherche reliée à la francophonie minoritaire d'Amérique du Nord, plus particulièrement de la Saskatchewan et de l'Ouest canadien.
The Language Institute supports research related to Francophone communities in North America, particularly those in Saskatchewan and western Canada.
The Language Institute contributes to the liberal education mission of the University of Regina because the Institute considers that the learning of a language enriches one's life. In the words of the Institute's Council, "L'apprentissage d'une langue, c'est un investissement pour la vie".
The Language Institute is presided over by a Council of members drawn from the University and the community at large.
