Background
For more than 15 years, Regina, Saskatchewan has been the centre of
greenhouse gas technology development, with research on CO2 capture
dating back to 1991. The International Test Centre (ITC) research group
at the University of Regina is considered worldwide to be a leading
centre in the area of CO2 capture. In 2000, the world’s first
Weyburn-Midale CO2 measuring, monitoring and verification project
supported by International Energy Agency (IEA) was launched to study CO2
behaviour in the ground.
Furthermore, the University has been the
scene of ionic liquids research in various forms
for 40 years and GREEN chemistry workshops featuring this topic were
hosted periodically from1999. It is intended to showcase the University
of Regina as a foremost research and educational establishment in the
area of sustainable energy development and to invite world experts to
participate in discussions on the subjects of energy and environment. |
