WRTC - About
The Western Regional Training Centre
for Health Services Research (WRTC) is an innovative and collaborative program
designed to support the training of applied health services researchers across
disciplines, sectors, and institutions, and equip them to address the research
needs of a wide range of health-care policy makers. WRTC students have
access to additional training opportunities and receive an annual stipend and
travel support. Students attend workshops, institutes, and seminars funded
by the WRTC, as well as the annual conference of the Canadian Association for
Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR).
Students can also gain unparalleled exposure to senior management and
policy experts through practical field placements, which greatly enhance job
opportunities following program completion. Participation in the WRTC
gives students the opportunity to network with colleagues from across western
Canada, as well as from training sites located in Ontario, Quebec, and eastern
Canada. Graduate students (Master or PhD) may participate in the program
as full students or affiliate students. The WRTC attracts students from a
broad range of disciplines and backgrounds, including clinical medicine,
nursing, public health, psychology, public policy, economics, and sociology.
The WRTC is based at six universities in western Canada:
University of Alberta,
University of British Columbia,
University of Calgary,
University of Manitoba,
University of Regina, and
University of Saskatchewan. Graduate students
(Master or PhD) may participate in the program as full students or as affiliate
students.
