The Centre was established as an integral part of the Faculty of Physical Activity Studies (now Kinesiology and Health Studies) in fall, 1980.  Initially funded in large part by the George Reed Foundation, the Centre was dedicated to Dr. Paul Schwann, a Regina Physician, for his pioneer work and interest in preventative medicine and cardiac rehabilitation.

From its inception in 1980 the Centre has offered a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, Chronic Disease Prevention, Management and Risk Reduction Program, Exercise Therapy, and Workplace Wellness Services.  It has expanded this contribution over the years and now offers numerous health, fitness and lifestyle services and programs to the residents of Regina and Southern Saskatchewan, including the medical community, general public, business sector, provincial, national and university athletic teams, and the University of Regina faculty, staff and student body.

The Centre is unique in Canada - we know of no other university based health and fitness centre with the scope, quality and experience of services encompassed by the Dr. Paul Schwann Centre.
