The University of Regina is launching an advanced certificate in local government authority (ACLGA), a 30-credit hour program created in consultation with Urban Municipal Administrators Association of Saskatchewan (UMAAS), Rural Municipal Administrators’ Association of Saskatchewan (RMAA), the Department of Government Relations, and the University of Regina Faculty of Arts. Its flexible curriculum encourages students to explore areas of study directly related to their professional development as municipal administrators, councilors or other local government officials. Both the Urban and Rural Board of Examiners have endorsed the ACLGA as fulfilling all or part of the educational requirements for advanced municipal certification.
The new program is an extension of the certificate in local government authority (CLGA). Correspondence courses taken in the CLGA can be used toward completion of the ACLGA core requirements. Courses are offered at Regional Colleges, through online/televised delivery, or through Weekend University and Summer University in intensive formats.
Students may use ACLGA program courses toward an undergraduate degree program, and administrators who already hold a degree may be eligible to use some of their degree courses towards completion of the ACLGA.
Applications for admission to the Advanced Certificate in Local Government Authority will be accepted starting May 1, 2006. For more information, call 585-5807 or visit www.uregina.ca/cce/creditstudies.
