Dr. Vianne Timmons, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Regina, has been named one of "Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women" by the Women's Executive Network (WXN). It is the fourth consecutive year she has been recognized in this way.
The WXN Top 100 award, which was presented December 1st at an event in Toronto, honours Dr. Timmons for her work in the Public Sector Leaders category in four areas: management role; vision and leadership; corporate performance; and community service. She was also named to the Top 100 in the Public Sector Leaders category in 2010, and in the Professionals category in both 2008 and 2009.
As a four-time recipient of the Top 100 designation, Timmons was also inducted into the WXN Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Hall of Fame.
"Receiving this award is a great honour for me, particularly because it recognizes the increasingly important role that women executives are playing in many sectors in Canada," Dr. Timmons said. "The Women's Executive Network does a wonderful job of preparing women to become executives and celebrating their success, and it should be commended for that work."
Paul McLellan, Chair of the University of Regina's Board of Governors, congratulated Dr. Timmons on the award.
"This award is a reflection not just of the quality of Dr. Timmons' administrative work since becoming President of the University in 2008, but also of her life of service in other capacities," he noted. "As a teacher and researcher in the areas of family literacy and inclusive education, she has devoted her working life to serving many of the most vulnerable in our communities, and on behalf of our Board of Governors, I would like to thank her for that."
The Women's Executive Network is Canada's leading organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of executive-minded women in the workplace. Since 1997, WXN has expanded rapidly to meet the needs of the growing number of female managers and executives across Canada.
