Update 1

23 March 2016

Dr Harvey King’s current term as Director of the Centre for Continuing Education concludes on 30 June 2017.

Per University policy on out-of-scope academic administrative appointments (available at http://www.uregina.ca/policy/browse-policy/policy-EMP-010-030.html), Dr King and I have had a conversation about the possibility of a further term as Director. He has agreed to consider this possibility, and I am therefore initiating the consultative process.

A rough timeline for that process follows. If required, it will be modified according to the needs of the Centre and the availability of people involved in the review process:

  • Wednesday 23 March - review process initiated and communicated to faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders
  • Monday 11 April - Reappointment Committee membership announced
  • Friday 15 April - Dr King’s statement of vision for a further term made publicly available; written input on the statement and on a further term for Dr King sought from faculty, staff, students, alumni, the broader University community, and external stakeholders
  • Friday 29 April - deadline for written input to be received
  • 9-13 May - potential meeting dates for Reappointment Committee to review input and prepare recommendation

One of the first tasks in the process is to strike a Reappointment Committee with broad representation from the Centre, the University, and external stakeholders. The Reappointment Committee will be structured as follows:

  • 1 member from Deans' Council, appointed by the Deans and Directors
  • 1 faculty member from CCE, elected or appointed by means determined by CCE faculty;

  • 2 faculty members from outside CCE, one from the Council Committee on Academic Mission and one from the Council Committee on Budget;

  • 1 APT employee from CCE elected or appointed by means determined by the APT staff;

  • 1 CUPE employee from CCE elected or appointed by means determined by the CUPE staff;

  • 1 member from Financial Services;

  • 1 external member, representing the Seniors University Group.

I will chair the Reappointment Committee, which will be supported in its work by Kristina Untereiner of the Provost's Office. Dr King has been asked to prepare a statement of his vision for the Centre over the next five years, and it will be made public as noted above.

The goal is to have the Reappointment Committee membership in place by Monday 11 April, and its membership announced that day.
