CRITERIA FOR AWARD OF TITLE "DISTINGUISHED UNIVERSITY
PROFESSOR"
The title "Distinguished University
Professor" is established to provide periodically recognition to the
most exceptional members of faculty who have distinguished themselves in
research, teaching and scholarly activity to the benefit of their
discipline and the University of Regina.
In the spirit of this description, the following
policy applies at the University of Regina:

No more than one (1)
"Distinguished University Professor" designation may be
awarded each year.

The designation
"Distinguished University Professor" is provided for the
remainder of their career. The financial award is provided for a
maximum of a five-year term.

Nominations shall be
initiated at the Faculty or Department level and shall be accompanied
by supporting documentation, including a recommendation from the Dean
and Department Head (when applicable).

A six-member selection
committee, chaired by the Vice-President (Academic) shall review the
nominations and make recommendations to the President. The selection
committee shall include:
4 faculty members elected via Council
procedures
1 student representative chosen by the
Students’ Union
1 representative of the Alumni Association

All active members of
the professorial ranks holding full-time appointments are eligible for
nomination.

The award shall
include a suitable certificate and a $2,000 contribution each year (to
a maximum of five (5) consecutive years) to the member’s A.P.E.A.
The award will be announced and presented at convocation.

Questions about
interpretation of the policy shall be referred to the President whose
decision shall be final.
