Frequently Asked Questions

I will be bringing my car with me to campus. How do I get a parking permit, and how much will it cost?

To purchase a Resident parking pass, please contact Parking & Transportation Services. Permits are purchased in advance and may be picked up from the Parking & Transportation Services office when you arrive on campus. Please consult the Parking Services website for more information on hours of operation and rates.

Internal applicants (those students who are returning to residence) will have priority parking which will be assigned based on the date you applied to Parking & Transportation Services for your pass. Renewal of parking permits is not automatic. You still need to apply for parking online, or by going in person to Parking & Transportation Services in College West room 108.

I would like to move in earlier than the date specified in my letter of offer. How do I apply to do so?

To qualify for an earlier move in date, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be an international (overseas) student

  • Are attending SIAST and your program starts earlier than the move-in date

  • Are moving between La Résidence, College West or North & South residences

  • Have a special circumstance that has been approved by Residence Management

  • Students registered or volunteering for First Year Orientation

You must inform the residence office at least one week in advance of your planned move in date, and be approved in order to arrive early.  *An early arrival charge of $25 per day applies if you have been approved to move in early.

Does the University of Regina have Family Housing available on campus?

Currently, the University of Regina offers only single student housing. For a listing of rentals in close proximity to the campus, please go to the University of Regina Students' Union home page at http://ursu.uregina.ca/online/housing/

Does my room have a phone, or do I need to bring one? Do I need to bring an answering machine?

Your room does include a telephone (in apartment style suites, there is one phone in the suite, not in each room). Telephone services include a voice mail system (North and South Residence only) on your phone. Once you’ve checked in, you can go to the Residence Office to have your voice mail activated. College West and La Résidence do not have the voice mail feature, however, you can bring an answering machine.

What if I have someone specific that I would like as a roommate?

Roommate requests will be accommodated when possible, and only if all parties put each other down on their application form when applying.  Note: We will put roommates together when possible, but the room types are subject to availability – first come first served.

How do I contact my new roommate?

Due to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP), we cannot release any personal information to you regarding your new roommate. You will meet your roommate on move-in day.

What if I do not like the room I have been assigned?

You can request a room change to a different room (the office staff will notify you when they are accepting room change requests).  Room changes are subject to availability of the room type requested.

Will my $200 deposit be refunded if I do not attend the University of Regina?

The $200 deposit to hold your Residence accommodations will only be refunded if you have not been accepted at the University of Regina, or have chosen to attend another post secondary institution.  To process your refund, Residence Services requires a copy of your letter indicating that you were not selected, or your letter of acceptance.

What type of laundry system is in the Residences?

The laundry system works on SmartCards. Cards may be purchased for $5 at the charging stations.  There are charging stations in the North and South Residences and College West. To charge your card, you simply go to one of the stations, insert the desired amount of cash (the charging stations take $10 & $20 bills) and the value is added to your card. You then insert the card into the washing machine/dryer and away you go!

Is Internet included in the cost of my room?

Yes, high speed Internet is included in the cost of your room. You can get a cable from the Residence Office upon checking in, then return it when you move out.

What does the Meal Plan include? Do I have to purchase a Meal Plan?

Does my Meal Plan membership expire?
