Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics has many scholarship opportunities available to undergraduate students. Below is a list of the awards currently active in the department.

Entrance Awards:

H.J. Promhouse Entrance Scholarship in Mathematics

1 award ($2500)

Deadline October (Fall) No application required

The scholarship will be presented to an entering University of Regina undergraduate student in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Has the highest grade in AP Calculus from a Saskatchewan high school;
  • Registered in Math 111 when the scholarship is awarded
  • Registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the term the scholarship is awarded.

Co-operators Life Insurance Company Actuarial Science Award

2 awards ($2000)

Deadline October (Fall) Application required

Each award will be presented to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Actuarial Science
  • has achieved a Program Grade Point Average (PGPA) of 80%
  • has completed a minimum of 53 credit hours
  • registered and remains registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours in the semester the award is presented
  • has completed ACS 116, 216 & 217
  • demonstrates the ability to balance commitments such as work, family, volunteering, athletics and/or cultural activities by way of a written statement.

Note: Students may only receive this award once.

Don Ireland Memorial Award

1 award $1000

Deadline October (Fall) Application required

The award will be presented to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the Faculty of Science, majoring in Actuarial Science
  • Achieved a minimum program grade point average (PGPA) of 75%
  • Registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours the award is presented
  • Completed a minimum of 52 credit hours
  • Submission of a 200 - 300 word essay expressing how the student plans on using their actuarial science background and problem solving skills to make a positive impact on society

H.J. Promhouse Continuing Scholarship in Mathematics

1 award ($2500)

Deadline October (Fall) No application required

The scholarship will be presented to a University of Regina undergraduate student in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematics, Statistics or Applied Mathematics and Statistics
  • Completed a minimum of 45 credit hours;
  • Completed Math 221;
  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) of 80%; and,
  • Registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the term the scholarship is awarded.

Note: Preference will be given to former recipients of The H.J. Promhouse Calculus Scholarship in Mathematics or to students majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics and Statistics

Joan & Norman Beirnes Scholarship

1 award $7500 (paid in 2 installments of $3750)

The scholarship will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in one of the following programs: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Statistics, Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science Honours with combined major in Mathematics and Computer Science
  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) of 85%
  • Completed a minimum of 45 credit hours
  • Registered and remain registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the semester the award is presented

Saskatchewan Government Insurance Actuarial Science Scholarship

1 award $2500

Deadline October (Fall) No application required

The scholarship will be awarded to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science
  • Registered and remain registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the semester the award is presented
  • Successfully completed a minimum of 60 credit hours toward their program
  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) of 80%
  • Successfully completed or currently enrolled in ACSC 116, 216, and 317

Kornelius G Toews Scholarship

1 award $3700

Deadline February (Winter) No application required

The scholarship will be awarded to a University of Regina student who meets the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program or the Bachelor of Science Honours program, with a major in Mathematics, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics and Statistics
  • Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 80%
  • Successfully completed a minimum of 84 credit hours
  • Registered and remains registered in a minimum 9 credit hours in the semester the scholarship is awarded

Note: Preference will be given to individuals in the Bachelor of Science Honours program. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant with the highest cumulative grade point average (CGPA).

James B. Carefoot Memorial Scholarship

1 award $700

Deadline February (Winter) No application required

The scholarship will be presented to a University of Regina undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the Bachelor of Science or Science Honours program, majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, or Actuarial Science
  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) of 80%
  • Successfully completed a minimum of 54 credit hours
  • Registered and remains registered in a minimum of 9 credit hours in the semester the award is presented

Note: Preference will be given to individuals in the Bachelor of Sciences Honours program.
