Coursepack Adoption Procedures

The Bookstore staff is pleased to assist professors in compiling materials for course packages and providing answers to any questions you may have regarding course packages.

On June 29, 2012 the University of Regina, and its federated colleges, entered into an agreement with Access Copyright based upon the Model Licence negotiated by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and Access Copyright. The agreement is retroactive to January 1, 2011 and will remain in effect until December 31, 2015.  The new agreement will allow the University community to copy and distribute copyright-protected works from Access Copyright’s Repertoire in both paper and digital format pursuant to the terms of the agreement. It also provides access to a new range of digital materials as well as the ability to create digital coursepacks.

Further information can be found at the University of Regina copyright page http://www.uregina.ca/copyright/

Please direct questions about Coursepack Adoption to Gaylene Knelson by e-mail (gaylene.knelson@uregina.ca) or by phoning 306-585-5174.

Submission Process for Coursepack Adoption:

The Bookstore must obtain proper clearance based on licensing agreements before they will direct a coursepack to Printing Services.

Faculty must supply all of the following to the Bookstore before the clearing process can begin:

  • A copy of the coursepack.
  • A copy of an adoption form.  (Currently coursepacks cannot be ordered through our online requisition system)
  • A completed copy log, providing the following information:
    • ISSN or ISBN
    • number of the periodical, journal, or newspaper
    • author
    • title
    • publisher
    • copyright year
    • total number of pages in book, periodical, journal
    • page numbers to be copied
    • total number of pages to be copied

Submission Guidelines

See the table below for submission guidelines; these guidelines have been adjusted since signing with Access Copyright as approval time in most cases is much shorter under this agreement.  On-time submission ensures the log sheet can be verified early and discrepancies reported to the faculty and/or department.  Discrepancies could include inconsistency between the log sheet and the package content, over copy percentage limits set by copyright law, non-approval from copyright owners, or anything that does not meet the University of Regina's commitment to the Copyright Act.  Access Copyright does not cover all approvals so if required the Bookstore must contact the copy right owner directly which can also cause delays based on their response time.
