John "Jack" Alexander Boan

In loving memory of our dear friend
December 16 1917 - October 31 2018
In the early morning of Wednesday, October 31, John (Jack) Alexander passed away peaceful at the age of 100. Jack, as everyone knew him, began teaching at the University of Saskatchewan - Regina Campus in 1962 after an already-distinguished career that included serving in the RCAF during World War II and working for the Royal Commission on Health Services that ultimately recommended the implementation of Medicare for all Canadians.
Jack was a living link to our University's very origins, because in 1963 he helped draft the so-called "Regina Beach Manifesto" which laid out many of the educational principles that influenced the development of the Regina campus and ultimately the University of Regina itself. In his nearly 60 years as a professor of Economics and then Professor Emeritus, he taught and influenced thousands of students. He also was involved in countless charitable activities, including leading numerous United Way campaigns and supporting refugee students on campus. He received an honorary degree from the University of Regina in 1994.
Jack's full obituary was published in the November 5 edition of the Leader Post or click here
From all of us at your University, thank you Jack for sharing your life and talents with us for nearly six decades.
Rest in Peace
