Dr. Nilgün Önder received a BSc degree with the highest distinction in Political Science and Public Administration from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. After receiving her MA degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, she completed her PhD in Political Science at York University, Toronto. Dr. Önder joined the University of Regina in 2003. Besides having a full-time faculty appointment in the Department of Political Science, she served as the Coordinator of the International Studies Program during 2006-2011 and 2013-15. She was Acting Associate Dean (Research and Graduate), Faculty of Arts, from 2015-2018. She is currently Associate Vice President (Academic), U of R; she started this position effective 1 July 2018. She is also the President of International Studies Association - Canada 2018.
Her areas of specialization are International Relations, Global Political Economy, and Turkey in the global political-economic system. Her current research interests include power and global governance; global finance and international financial institutions; Foreign Policy Theory; and Turkish foreign policy and politics. Dr. Önder teaches both Political Science and International Studies courses in the Department of Politics and International Studies. She has published articles in international journals and presented papers at numerous international academic conferences; she is also the author of The Economic Transformation of Turkey: Neoliberalism and State Intervention (London: I.B Tauris, 2016).
