Yuchao Zhu

Dr. Yuchao Zhu is originally from China where he received a B.A. from Nankai University in Tianjin.  Then he worked as a journalist in Beijing for six years before coming to Canada.  He obtained an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Regina in 1991 and then received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Queen's University in 1996.  He has taught at the Royal Military College of Canada, Queen's University and the University of British Columbia (Kelowna Campus) before coming back to the University of Regina in 1999.  He is currently a Professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies.
 
Dr. Zhu’s teaching areas include comparative politics, international relations and international (Asian) studies.  His research interests include China's political and legal reform, China’s ethnic issues, China’s foreign policy and Canada-China relations.  In 2013 he published a book of Canadian politics in China-加拿大笔记 (Canada: Notes and Commentary, by Tianjin Social Science Academy Press). His articles have appeared in many academic journals: The Pacific Review, Journal of Contemporary China, Asian Survey, Development and Change, Journal of American-East Asian Relations, Journal of Chinese Political Science, China-An International Journal, Human Rights Defender, Canadian Foreign Policy, Issues and Studies, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, American Journal of Chinese Studies, and American Review of China Studies.  He has also published articles in Mandarin in various Chinese academic journals: 当代中国研究 (Modern China Studies), 二十一世纪 (Twenty-First Century), 国际政治科学 (Chinese Journal of International Politics), 民族研究 (Ethno-national Studies), 世界民族 (World Ethno-national Studies), 中山大学政治学评论 (Sun Yatsen University Journal of Political Studies), 天津社会科学 (Tianjin Social Science Journal) and加拿大研究 (Canadian Studies).
