Position Type:                   Volunteer, $500 Scholarship after 12 Months

The Ambassador Leader team will participate in a 16 month leadership development program.  Students will support fellow Ambassadors at campus events and provide feedback to improve programming. Ambassador Leaders must be friendly and enthusiastic U of R students who are interested in further development of their leadership skills.

Open to part-time or full-time students (Undergraduate or Graduate)

Other Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience as a U of R Ambassador (preferred)
  • Selected students will be required to provide a criminal record check and vulnerable sector search
  • Selected students will be required to sign a letter of confidentiality
  • Selected students will be required to sign an Ambassador Leader Contract

Responsibilities

Time Commitment

Approximately 40-60 hours per semester including, but not limited to:

  • 1-2 hour biweekly meetings (Winter 2023, Fall 2023, Winter 2024)
  • Check-in meetings (Winter 2023, Fall 2023, Winter 2024)
  • Volunteer at Ambassador Recruitment Week (Winter 2023, Winter 2024)
  • Ambassador Leader retreat (Spring 2023)*
  • Ambassador Leader training (Summer 2023)*
  • Volunteer at Housing Move-In, Welcome Weekend, Orientation, and Fall Open House (Fall 2023)
  • Leadership Challenge (Fall 2023)
  • Community Service Project (Winter 2024)
  • 5-10 hours meeting and mentoring new Ambassadors (Fall 2023, Winter 2024)
  • 5-10 hours meeting and training new leaders (Winter 2024)
  • *Please note that these commitments can be discussed upon selection as we understand not everyone is available during the Spring/Summer terms.


Volunteer Requirements

  • Complete Ambassador Leader training
  • Complete Tour Training Part 1 and pass Part 2
  • Complete Ambassador Leader retreat
  • Complete regular check-in meetings with coordinator
  • Attend regular Ambassador Leader meetings
  • Assist in coordinating the Ambassador team during events such as Orientation and Welcome Week
  • Take pictures to assist in the promotion of program and events
  • Act as a mentor to fellow Ambassadors
  • Volunteer at Housing Move-In, Orientation Day, Fall Open House, and Ambassador Recruitment Week
  • Provide feedback on events and ideas for improvement
  • Help oversee key aspects of events (eg. Coordinate registration, lead interactive sessions, oversee set up and logistics, run ice breakers)
  • Plan and execute Ambassador appreciation events throughout the year
  • Actively participate in a Student Leadership Challenge presentation (Fall)
  • Actively participate in a Community Service Project of your choice (Winter)
  • A minimum of 1 check in meeting per semester with Coordinator
  • A minimum of 1 check in meeting with a mentee Ambassador
  • Actively assist in the planning and execution of Ambassador Leader training and retreats
  • Host information training sessions for new Ambassador Leaders based on a relevant learning objective
  • Positively promote the Ambassador Program and recruit students to become Ambassadors

Develop a broad range of skills related to overcoming obstacles and challenges in working with peers, event planning, facilitating change, etc

Problem Solving

Develop networking skills by taking responsibility for communicating and meeting with Ambassadors, Alumni, and other service units to develop working  relationships to improve the Ambassador program
