Violin, Viola

SHALVA CHABUKIANI was born in Tbilisi (Georgia,f. USSR). He began playing the violin at the age of 6 and started at the Tbilisi Special Music High School. In 1986 he began his studies at the Tbilisi Music College under David Reisner and graduated in the following five years. In 1991 Mr.Chabukiani entered the Tbilisi State Conservatory as violinist, where he studied under the tutelage of a well-known professor Leo Shiukashvili (one of the most world-renowned students of Mr.Shiukashvili is the laureate of the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow violinist and conductor Liana Isakadze, among others). During his studies he regularly took part in performances of a chamber and symphony music and played the first performances of some contemporary Georgian composers works as violinist and violist (Eleonora Eksanishvili, among others). At the same time, Shalva Chabukiani was a member of the Tbilisi Young Philharmonic orchestra (as violinist), under the button of Avtandil Mamatzashvili. In 1994 Mr.Chabukiani continued his studies at the Tbilisi State Conservatory as violist and took up the post of violist with the Tbilisi State Opera orchestra, under Dzhansug Kahidze. In the following year, Mr.Chabukiani was a member of the Georgia State orchestra (in violas).

In 1995 Shalva’s family moved to live in Israel and in 1996 he began his studies at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of music and dance (under Hebrew University) under the tutelage of a famous violist and teacher Michail Kugel. The following years, Mr.Chabukiani developes his skill as player at the Tel -Aviv University Music Academy, where he studied with, professor, a soloist and Principal violist of the Israel Philarmonic orchestra Yuri Gandelsman and the tutelage of professor , violist Gad Levertov and graduated in 2000. At the same time, Shalva Chabukiani was a member of the Israel Young Philharmonic orchestra. In 1996 - 2003 he worked as violist of the Ra’anana Symphony orchestra and after in Ashdod Symphony orchestra. In additional he has been teaching violin and viola since 2001 (at the Ashkelon School of Arts and the Holon Music College in Israel).

In March 2011 Shalva with his family moved to Canada. From 2011 when arrived till present, Shalva plays as violist in Regina Symphony orchestra , at University of Regina orchestra and in Regina Community orchestra also he teaches in many Educational Institutes in SK such as Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts at University of Regina and M. Long-McQuade Education Center in Regina since 2012.

Mr. S. Chabukiani performs chamber and solo repertoire as violist with his spouse pianist Natalia Chabukiani, the daughter of famous Ukrainian composer Valentin Bibik, also S. participates in other chamber and orchestral groups in Regina, Saskatchewan, such as Concertino Regina Music Ensemble where he performs many recitals, also he was a singer (bass) in Regina Male Voice and Regina Philharmonic choirs.

VIOLA PLAYER in RSO, RCO, U of R Orchestra, viola/violin teacher, singer in Regina. He speaks English, Russian, Hebrew and Georgian languages. Mr. Chabukiani is married with three children.
