Protocol for Contact and Research with Regina Schools

Protocol for Contacting Schools

Prior to any school contact the faculty member and/or instructor will submit a request to the Faculty of Education, Student Services (requests must come through faculty members, not individual students). The request is then forwarded by the Student Services Centre to the relevant school division for approval. Once approval from the school division has been obtained, contact with the school(s) can be made.

This protocol is part of an agreement between the Faculty of Education and the Regina Public and Regina Roman Catholic Separate School Divisions which states that all requests regarding school contacts are to be channelled through the Facultyf of Education, Student Services Centre.

We recognize that there is a limit to the total number of involvement, pre-intern and intern field placements that can be accommodated by the schools in Regina. We also recognize that sending additional students or classes into the schools could mean that teachers may not be as willing to accommodate required field placements in Regina for our programs. The school divisions state that their first priority is to accommodate our involvement, pre-intern and intern field placements. For additional in-school requests, please be aware of the following guidelines:

  • Research requests are limited to research conducted by faculty members and graduate students from the University of Regina. Research is defined as any activity which involves interviews and/or questionnaires. Ethics clearance from the University must accompany the request. As well, a brief description of the research, along with any questionnaires, consent forms or surveys to be used during the research is required. • Faculty members may request the involvement of their students in a particular school/classroom if there is an obvious direct benefit to the school/school division. The instructor will complete a Field Experience Request Form (26 KB)Word Document PDF (195 KB)PDF and return it to the Faculty of Education, Student Services Office.
  • Visitations by undergraduate classes to schools, other than through assigned field experiences, are only permitted if there is a direct benefit to the classroom teacher and students. The instructor will complete a Field Experience Request Form (26 KB)Word Document PDF (195 KB)PDF and return it to the Faculty of Education, Student Services Office.

Please be aware that school divisions require anyone coming into their schools to have a current Criminal Record Check (including a "Vulnerable Sector Search") with them when they first visit the school.

Note: The Regina Public School (RPS) Division will review Research applications only three (3) times per year. Deadlines are August 15, December 1, and May 15. RPS will review the applications immediately after each deadline date and inform the researcher of the decision.

Note:  Deadline dates for University Classes - Field Experience Requests are:  Fall Semester - June 1 of the preceding semester, Winter Semester - December 1 of the preceding fall semester, Spring/Summer Semester - April 1 of the preceding winter semester.

This process ensures that the schools are not overburdened. The protocol is in place for the convenience and well being of classroom teachers and their students. Kindly inform your students of this protocol. Thank you for your cooperation.
