Abstract – The drive for low cost power and reliable service have influenced the development of the electric power system during the last century. Renewables, decarbonization, information technology and the cost of rebuilding or replacing the existing system will be changing the landscape of the electric power grid. The presentation focuses on the technological drivers of the evolution, and the impact of new technologies.
Bio: Dr. Elemer Demeter, Ph.D., P.Eng. is with the Saskatchewan Power Corporation. He is currently Manager of the Protection and Control Engineering department. He has been an Adjunct Professor with the University of Saskatchewan, and he currently holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Regina. He developed and taught several graduate classes in power systems engineering. He is a Professional Engineer registered in the Province of Saskatchewan.
