Alertus emergency notification mobile app

The University of Regina is committed to making our campus a safe and welcoming place for our students, faculty, staff and visitors. To support this commitment there are several tools in place and one of these is our Emergency Notification System (ENS) which pushes emergency messages to University of Regina computers, wall-mounted beacons, and television screens across the main and College Avenue campuses. The ENS messages are also distributed through the University of Regina’s official Twitter account @UofRegina.

Now, we are adding a new tool to support safety on campus with the launch of the Alertus emergency notification app. This new tool replaces the notification function that was previously available on the official student app. The official student app will no longer push emergency notifications to users. This function has been replaced by the new Alertus app, which must be downloaded onto your mobile device separately. The official student app is still available on the Google Play Store or the iOS App Store; please continue to use it for your class schedule, grades, important contacts, campus life resources, and more.

Now you can download two great apps for one great campus experience: Alertus for campus emergency push notifications, and, the official student app for your class schedule, grades, important contacts and campus life resources.

The new Alertus app can be downloaded, for free, from the Google Play Store or the iOS App Store and placed on your mobile device so that you can receive University of Regina emergency messages on your mobile device.

I want to encourage everyone – students, faculty, staff, families, friends, and campus visitors – to download the new Alertus app onto your mobile devices. Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the app store of your choice and look for the yellow Alertus Recipient app
  2. Download the free app
  3. Type in “uralerts” (case sensitive) when asked to enter your organization code
  4. You will then be asked to submit your email address and will subsequently be sent an email verification notice.
  5. Once you verify your email, you are automatically signed up to receive any University of Regina ENS push notifications.
  6. Be sure to enable notifications for the Alertus app on your phone to receive messages.

This last point – enabling your phone to receive push notifications from the Alertus app – is essential.

Other important reminders about the University’s Emergency Notification System (ENS):

  • If there is a campus emergency or severe weather conditions, emergency information and instructions will be posted on the Emergency Info website at https://www.uregina.ca/emergency/
  • The ENS is not linked to the Fire Alarm System and will not activate when the fire alarm sounds.
  • Decisions to activate the ENS are made on a situation-by-situation basis.
  • You or your family and friends can connect your personal home computer to the emergency notification system. For details on how to do this, go to https://www.uregina.ca/emergency/ens/index.html
