Course and Program Scheduling

General Information on Course Scheduling

The five undergraduate program majors are 136 credit hrs (46 classes) sequenced over 9 semesters — including ONE scheduled spring/summer semester. Classes are taken in sequence, are built on prerequisites, and are subject to change. For current scheduling, please use UR Self-Service.

The engineering program is designed to start in September, but many Fall classes also run in the Winter semester. Students starting the program in January should consult with the Academic Advisor (see Advising) regarding course selection.

Note that Semesters 1 & 2 are common classes. Students may take either ENGG 123 Design and Communications or Engineering 100 Engineering Graphics in their first semester and then take the other of these courses in their second semester.

Engineering is a very structured program with little flexibility in terms of when certain courses are offered and when they must be taken in the programs. Students are strongly encouraged to follow the normal program schedule for their major, and any student who is not following the prescribed program schedule is encouraged to meet with the academic advisor (see Advising) or Program Chair to carefully plan his or her courses to ensure all requirements for graduation are met in the least amount of time.

Spring/Summer Session

  • Non-co-op students in EVSE, ISE, and PSE take semester 6 directly after Winter Semester 4.
  • Students in ESE and SSE take semester 6 after Winter Semester 7.
