2018 Law Foundation of Saskatchewan Lecture: Why Do Hackers Hack?

Guest Speaker:
Dr. Thomas Holt, Cybercrime Specialist
School of Criminal Justice,
Michigan State University

Though the crime of computer hacking is prominent in the mainstream media, there is little discussion as to why individuals actually engage in it. This lecture will explore hacking in the context of two contrasting motivations: money and ideology. Holt will discuss the differences and commonalities across these attacks and attackers, along with their implications for policy and enforcement practice.
