Academic Feminism with Dr. Emily Grafton and Dr. Amber Fletcher

Join Campion College for the second event in the Academic Feminism series with Dr. Emily Grafton and Dr. Amber Fletcher.

Indigenous Feminisms: Re-colonizing or Transformative? - Emily Grafton, PhD

Indigenous feminisms are divisive theory and practice. For some, Indigenous feminism can re-entrench colonial oppressions and suppress broader Indigenous liberation movements. For others, the intersections of patriarchy, racism, and colonialism require Indigenous feminisms’ gendered lenses of analysis to empower Indigenous women and broader Indigenous liberation movements. This talk will provide an overview of the debates that make Indigenous feminisms controversial in contemporary settler colonial Canada.

Doing Feminist Research in Rural and Indigenous Communities - Amber Fletcher, PhD

This presentation will describe a current SSHRC-funded research project, which uses an intersectional feminist approach to study the experiences of climate hazards (wildfire, flooding, and drought) in rural and Indigenous communities of Saskatchewan. Amber will present lessons learned when doing applied intersectional research.
