Advancing Water Resiliency: Nature's Contribution to People and Agriculture

United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 12 envisions using natural resources, such as water, sustainably in both consumption and production practices. In agriculture and resource rich Saskatchewan, this goal resonates on the prairie landscape-advancing agricultural livelihoods, climate adaptation, and mitigation. Wetlands, grasslands and pasture land can act as natural sinks to reduce GHG emissions and their protection offers synergistic benefits in improving water quality. While agricultural producers have made important contributions in this regard it is important not to lose the momentum. This panel will discuss the challenges, opportunities, and will envision a path forward.

Moderated by Margot Hurlbert, Canada Research Chair in Climate Change, Energy and Sustainability Policy; Professor, JSGS this panel includes:

Heather Bear, Fourth Vice Chief, Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations
Alice Davis, Manager, Lower Qu'Appelle Watershed Stewards Inc.
Larry Durand, Owner and Operator, Field Good Agronomics Ltd.
Paul Galpern, Associate Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Calgary
Ian McCreary, Owner and Operator, McCreary Land and Livestock Ltd.

This online lecture is supported by JSGS, Ducks Unlimited Canada, RCE Saskatchewan, and SAWS.
