Belonging to the land, Connecting to the language: Settler Colonialism in Canada Virtual Public Talk #4

Settler Colonialism in Canada Virtual Public Talk #4
Belonging to the land, Connecting to the language: a story of reclaiming what is ours
Melanie Brice, Faculty of Education, University of Regina

Michif language is endangered with most speakers over 70 years old, which makes it paramount ot revitalize. Like other Indigenous languages, Michif is rooted in the land and is part of our ways of knowing and being. This talk will share a story of reclaiming my language and thus strengthening my relationship to the land and all my relations.

--

This is the fourth in a series of public virtual talks around the Settler Colonialism in Canada: Perspectives, Comparisons, Cases project, which will also include a workshop, conference, graduate symposium, and publications gathering researchers from a variety of backgrounds. These virtual public talks are meant to act as an ongoing and living acknowledgement of the historical, existing, and possible relationships to the land and on the land.

The project is led by Emily Grafton (U Regina), David MacDonald (Guelph), and Jérôme Melançon (U Regina)
