Covid and Annual Review

URWISE (the University of Regina Women in Science and Engineering) is concerned about how the career progression, particularly for the careers of women at the University of Regina, will be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. In an attempt to mitigate this, we are encouraging faculty members undergoing review to include a statement in their review package about how the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted their work.

URWISE has prepared a guideline document with suggestions for what to include and sample statements that members of URWISE have written. Contact us at urwise@uregina.ca to get a copy of this document.

To The University Community,

Faculty review is coming up fast and for many of us this past year has been, well, let's say anomalous. The pandemic, with its lock-downs, cancelled events, unpredictable schedules and extra care-giving duties has affected our research, teaching, graduate supervision and service work. Further, research has shown that the impacts of the pandemic has disproportionately affected women and faculty with significant caregiving responsibilities.

We also encourage those not being reviewed, to start documenting this impact.

In the standard review process, faculty may attach material in the "Supporting documentation" to a dedicated section of the Annual Information Form. We have been instructed that this is the appropriate place to include information about the impact of the pandemic on your career progress. URWISE is encouraging and supporting faculty members to exercise this option and use it like the "eligible delays" that are a standard part of an NSERC applications.

To this end, URWISE has prepared a guideline document with suggestions for what to include and sample statements that members of URWISE have written. This document is attached, please feel free to contact us if you have questions or need some support writing a statement.

It has been another hard year, but we can support and help each other through this.
