Garbage Entanglements: Dr. Ilana Boltvinik

UR International would like to invite you to a workshop to discuss garbage entanglements delivered by our visiting Mexican Chair, Prof. Ilana Boltvinik.

Based on contemporary archeology practices, this workshop will examine past and present garbage recollected from public spaces from and art-based research practice. This workshop involves examining the position of objects in our everyday life, notions of space (taken from topological perspectives in geography) and the contextual signification of these strange objects. As examples we will examine the work done by TRES in Mexico City and other artists working with garbage in Mexico and the world.

Prof. Ilana Boltvinik is a visual artist, researcher, and a full-time faculty professor at our partner university, Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana. Her work is concentrated in inter and trans-disciplinary art-based research in dialogue with sociology, anthropology and science. She is currently a Fellow of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University. Prof. Boltvinik collaborates in the National Center for the Arts, is a co-founder and works as an independent artist in the collective TRES.

Light refreshments will be provided. This event is open to public and ALL are welcome! Reservation is NOT required.
