Living Heritage: Sharing the Land

The Living Heritage symposium began in 2015 as a way to showcase and encourage the expression of knowledge, skills and practices of Living Heritage. Living Heritage emphasizes the human experience; it lives in each of us and shapes our sense of identity, belonging and place in the world.

The 2017 Living Heritage event will focus on sharing the land, with the sharing of stories through the eyes of those who are new to Canada and those who are not. How do we all balance cultural continuity with change and integration? How can the perspective of the newcomer shed light on the injustices faced by Indigenous peoples? Through performance, interactive exercises and presentations, we will explore how the land can be shared.

This event will showcase:

• An address linking themes from the 2016 Living Heritage event to today';
• Keynote presentation by Zarqa Nawaz, Creator of Little Mosque on the Prairie and author, Laughing All the Way to the Mosque;
• Panel of international students who will reflect on their experieince in Canada;
• Celebration of cultural performance from Karibu and Terrance Littletent.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided to those who register to attend.
