40th Annual Nash Lecture: The Feminist Revolution in Religion

As we enter a new decade, religion and social politics are deeply intertwined and questions regarding equity in the Church continue to swirl. The new feminist revolution seeks creative ways to highlight voices often silenced, raise awareness of intersectionality, and shift the larger conversation while promoting forward thinking transformation. In this talk, Dr. Gina Messina will discuss the status of the Church and its influence on socio-political dialogue, the impact of having a progressive pope who has graced the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, and a new understanding of revolution within the feminist religious movement that claims faith as its foundation to fuel positive social change within Church and society.

Dr. Messina is an American scholar and Catholic theologian with a focus on the intersection of gender, religion, and politics. She is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Ursuline College, a prolific author and editor, and a sought after speaker. She has appeared on MSNBC, NPR, at the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women, and as a TEDx speaker.
