Pandemics Vs. Endemics Vs. Epidemics: Risks of Non-Innovative Health Systems

Presented by: Dr. Tarun Katapally, Patient-oriented Research Leader and Associate Professor, JSGS

The COVID-19 pandemic has left us catching our breath, literally as a society suffering from debilitating effects of the virus, as well as figuratively as health systems are barely coping with the exacerbation of existing public health problems. The stark reality is that this pandemic has heightened the negative impact of existing endemics and re-emerging epidemics.

So, why weren't we better prepared for this pandemic? Dr. Katapally believes that lack of digital innovation in public health is a big reason. In this talk, he will put forward an argument informed by his own empirical research - that the risks of non-innovation are far greater than the risks of exploring artificial intelligence. More importantly, there is a critical need to decentralize technology and revolutionize health systems and healthy public policy.
