Research Presentation: The ethics of scholarly communication

The Hill and Levene Schools of Business is hosting a virtual Research Presentation by Dr. Vincent Larivière (Université de Montréal) on Predatory Journals on February 18.

Title: The ethics of scholarly communication

Abstract: Scholarly publications are at the heart of the research process, circulating knowledge and allowing for an economy of reputation. Despite this vital importance, ethical aspects of scholarly communication are rarely discussed. This presentation will provide an overview of the transformations of scholarly communication, focusing on the effects associated with digital technologies. Among other things, the oligopoly of commercial scholarly publishers, open access, and the advent of deceptive publishers (often referred to as "predatory") will be discussed. The presentation will conclude on the roles of scholarly journals in the digital age.
