Rethinking Global Citizenship in Light of COVID-19

Description: Join Dr. Bob Huish to learn about the impact of COVID-19 on international learning experiences of students. International experiential learning has long been a cornerstone of global citizenship education. Grounded in the value of "doing good" through volunteerism, volunteering abroad opportunities are not only a pillar to international development studies, they contribute to a multi-billion-dollar a year industry. However, students are becoming mindful of the climate consequences of mass travel, and the COVID-19 pandemic demanded that students stay home and learn online. How does this impact the future of international development studies, and global citizenship education? In this talk Dr. Huish reflects on his recent work in this area to suggest that educators begin to approach "anthropocene activism" as a means of building global citizenship education.
