Spring is in the air (or so we can dream) and the Career Centre is hoping to find you a perfect match at the U of R Spring Career Fair.  Thousands of students and members of the community seeking employment will be able to meet with more than 100 companies seeking employees to fill summer, part-time, full-time, co-op and internship positions.

Much like in speed dating, job seekers can travel around the fair visiting the display booths of employers and spend a few minutes introducing themselves and getting to know the organization and opportunities available.

Carla Harris, Manager of Student Employment Services at the University of Regina has some advice for those seeking to develop this brief meeting into a longer-term match.

“Looking for employment is a lot different than what it used to be. Almost every company uses online application processes so don’t come to the fair and expect to land a job right there,” says Harris.  “Instead view the Career Fair as an opportunity to discover the types of careers that are out there and to learn more about the various companies and what they are looking for in employees.”

The Career Centre holds workshops for students and alumni interested in learning how to make the most of their Career Fair experience.  The sessions are free and provide information about using your time effectively, advance research, resume preparation, how to present and introduce yourself and following-up with your new contacts.  The last one hour workshop for this fair is at 2:30 pm, Friday, January 30 in Room 252 of the Riddell Centre (Computer Lab in the Student Success Centre).

“The Spring Career Fair is for all students not just for those who are about to graduate,” says Harris. “First and second year students can check out summer, term and part-time opportunities, learn about the education and attributes employers are looking for in various professions and perhaps even discover a new career goal or profession.”

The U of R Career Centre is focused on helping students from all faculties and disciplines succeed in achieving their employment goals.

The 2015 Spring Career Fair, one of the Career Centre’s biggest events of the year, will be held on Monday, February 2, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, in Gym 3 of the Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport at the U of R.
