Managed workstations will have enforced idle time-out as of May 17, 2017

Threat Level: Low
Threat Type: Physical Access Threat
Advisory Date: 07/13/2023

Description

It is required by the University of Regina Use of Computer and Network Systems Policy that users must not allow unauthorized access to computers or accounts.

One of the methods to prevent unauthorized access is to lock your computer screen when you are away from your desk or when your computer is left unattended. This will stop anyone seeing anything confidential that you may be working on or using your computer to do something they shouldn't. Users should continue to lock their screens manually when stepping away from their computer, even for brief periods. This can be done by pressing the Windows Key + L, or pressing CTRL + ALT + Del and then "Lock this Computer".

In order to better protect your account and data, Information Services is deploying configurations to Evergreen computers which will automatically lock after 60 minutes of inactivity. You will be required to enter your password in order to access your computer after it has been locked due to inactivity. This change will become effective on May 17, 2017 for all Evergreen workstations, excluding labs and classrooms.

Those with unmanaged workstations are requested to configure their machine with a password protected idle time out of 60 minutes or less. For more information on how to configure a password screensaver lock, please see the Information Security Resources Page on Physical Security.
