Multiple External Breached Credentials

Threat Level: Low
Threat Type: External Account Breach
Advisory Date: 07/13/2023

Description

A collection of nearly 3000 database breaches has surfaced on the internet, this data dump contains over 200 million usernames and passwords.

Some of the data contained in these breaches are from previously reported account leaks and have already been rectified on our network, however there are a number of new disclosures that appear to be legitimate.

Impact

A small number of uregina.ca addresses have been found listed in this collection.

While there are simply too many websites to list, if you have used your personal uregina email address and password to log into any website other than uregina.ca, you may be affected by this breach.

Resolution

The indivudually affected uregina.ca users listed in this breach will be notified by email.

If you suspect that your account may be compromised, we strongly urge you to reset your password immediately. Doing so will lock out any unauthorized users that may be using credentials contained in this breach and restore your account security.

Please visit https://novapp.cc.uregina.ca/perl/chpass.pl  to change your University of Regina password.

When choosing a new password, remember these guidelines:

  1. Use a totally unique password for each website, login or service
  2. Good passwords are long, contain a mix of letters, numbers and symbols
  3. Use a password manager to keep track of all of your credentials
