New Version of Sophos Antivirus Required by August 15, 2019

Description

Information Services is updating the University of Regina supported antivirus software to provide improved security.  

The outgoing antivirus software, "Sophos Endpoint Security and Control", is set to expire as of August 15th, 2019 and will no longer receive updates. The new software, "Sophos Central Endpoint Advanced", is required to be installed prior to this date in order for your computer to remain protected. 

Managed Systems: No Action Required

If you have a managed system (most systems with an EV barcode, and some on-campus A0 barcodes),no action is required. "Sophos Central Endpoint Advanced" will be automatically deployed to managed systems which includes systems with Zenworks, Evergreen systems, labs, and classrooms.

Unmanaged Systems: Action Required by August 15, 2019

Action is required prior to August 15th, 2019 for system owners of unmanaged systems, including Macintosh computers and Windows systems without Zenworks.

To remain protected, "Sophos Central Endpoint Advanced" (referred to as "Sophos Central") must be installed before prior to August 15th, 2019.

Note: Under license, installation is permitted only on University owned systems.

Installation of this software is quick to install and requires no additional configuration, however it does require administrator permissions and an active internet connection while installing. 

Antivirus software helps the campus fight threats, protect the network, and computer systems from the latest viruses and malware. This change provides the most up to date detection and protection available.
