Transition to New RefWorks

The Library is transitioning from Legacy RefWorks to New RefWorks. New RefWorks is accessible starting August 22, 2019, with the goal of having all RefWorks users migrated to New RefWorks by November 15, 2019. Those who register for a New RefWorks account before noon on October 11, 2019 will be entered in a draw for an early bird prize!

To start using New RefWorks (regardless of whether or not you have used Legacy RefWorks in the past), follow these steps:

  1. Go to and click on “Create Account.” Enter your University of Regina or First Nations University of Canada email address* and follow other steps as prompted. Note that all users need to do this, regardless of whether or not they had an account in Legacy RefWorks.
  2. That’s it! You are in!
There are additional steps for users of Legacy RefWorks who want to import the references from their Legacy account into New RefWorks:
    1. Login to your Legacy RefWorks in one browser tab, and New RefWorks in another.
    2. In New RefWorks, click on the “Add” button (upper left of screen)
    3. Select “Import references from RefWorks, Mendeley, or RIS file.”
    4. Select “RefWorks.”
    5. Select “Authorize.”
    6. Select “Allow access.”
    7. You will be notified when your references have been transferred. Click “Ok.”

A demonstration of these steps is available in this video: Migrating your References from Legacy to New RefWorks.

You will find that, despite the new look, much of the underlying functionality is similar between the two versions. If you wish, you can view instructional videos on the exLibris New RefWorks YouTube channel.

The primary functional differences between Legacy and New RefWorks are:
