Mark Claxton is a Saskatchewan-based theatre artist, screen actor, and writer, with a professional background in journalism and communications.
Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Mark moved to Saskatchewan in 1996 to work as a reporter in Yorkton after studying journalism at Mount Royal University in Calgary. His feature article on information technology and its impending applications in Saskatchewan healthcare earned him an award from the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association. His growing interest in healthcare led him to accept a position as Director of Communications with the local health authority, where he worked for several years before moving to Regina in 2005 for a communications position with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health.
During his years in Saskatchewan, Mark had resumed practice of a lifelong love – acting. When the Globe Theatre launched its conservatory program in 2008, Mark auditioned and earned a spot in the program’s inaugural cohort. Continuing to earn roles on stage and screen, he shifted his professional focus to film and theatre. Since completing his training with the Globe in 2008, he has performed on numerous stages around the province and directed multiple productions, including Blood Relations (2018) and Circle Mirror Transformation (2022) with the University of Regina's theatre department. He has also served as a sessional instructor for the department's Professional Orientation course and for a public-relations writing and editing class with the Centre for Continuous Learning.
