Final Report: 2015-2020 Strategic Plan for Sustainability
The President's Advisory Comittee on Sustainability (PACS) presents to you the Final Report for the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan for Sustainability. This report highlights the accomplishments the University of Regina has made over the past five years, and includes accomplishments that have occurred up until March 2021.
While progress has been made in many areas, there are some actions that require long-term focus, ongoing support and further community consultation. Many of these long-term focus areas will carry-forward into the 2021-2026 Sustainability Action Plan, which is currently in development.
We hope you enjoy reading this report and seeing the significant sustainability advancements the University of Regina has achieved. Our campus community has much to be proud of!
Our Strategic Plan for Sustainability outlines a collective vision for a more robust University that will thrive well into the future.
An extension of the 2015-2020 institutional Strategic Plan, peyak aski kikawinaw, the Strategic Plan for Sustainability aims to make the University a leader in environmental responsibility, putting sustainability at the core of our teaching, research, and campus life. The creation of this plan fulfills a commitment made by the President's Advisory Committee on Sustainability.
Vision Statement
The University of Regina through its faculty, students, staff, and alumni, aspires to be a national leader in education for sustainable development.
Mission Statement
The University of Regina is a living lab which addresses important societal questions holistically, and integrates teaching, research, service, and operations to embrace emerging opportunities in sustainability.
Strategic Areas of Focus
Leadership
We will provide vision and strategies for shifts to sustainable practices, with special attention to identifying and removing barriers from ‘business as usual’ assumptions.
Waste
We will be mindful of all we use, decrease what we waste and initiate practices that avoid the waste stream altogether.
Energy
We will honour what we use from the earth and become even more energy efficient.
Transportation
We will support and encourage sustainable options and transportation systems.
Communication and Engagement
We will communicate openly to engage the University campuses and wider community to create a culture shift and change norms.
