Associate Vice-President (Research)

Dear members of the campus community,

I am pleased to inform you that following the recommendation of the Search Advisory Committee, Dr. Christopher Yost has been appointed as Associate Vice-President (Research) for a five-year term effective September 1, 2020.

Dr. Yost has long been a strong advocate of the University of Regina’s research enterprise. A member of the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science for 17 years, Dr. Yost received his PhD from the University of Calgary in 1998, and has experience as a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (Lacombe Research Centre, Alberta) and as a research associate at the University of Aarhus in Denmark.

Former Tier II Canada Research Chair in Microbial Ecology and Food Safety, Dr. Yost is the Co-Director of the Institute for Microbial Systems and Society. His research interests focus on environmental microbiology with a specific focus on agricultural microbiology. As we re-establish the Associate Vice-President (Research) role at the University, the entire research team is thrilled to have Dr. Yost join us, bringing years of leadership experience to help guide the U of R research enterprise even as we navigate through the current challenges and the stages of our recovery plan.

I wish to thank the members of the Search Advisory Committee — Dr. Irfan Al-Anbagi, Dr. Shadi Beshai, Dr. Supriya Bhat, Dr. Emily Grafton, Dr. Bonnie Jeffery, Dr. Elise J Matthews, Divyesh Patel, Dr. Nilgun Onder, Dr. Zisis Papandreou, Nancy Kazeil, and Karen Walker — for their commitment and team-work in ensuring a successful search, interview, and selection process.

The committee had a difficult choice to make between two highly qualified candidates, Dr. Yost and Dr. Cory Butz, Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies), Faculty of Science. We thank Dr. Butz for his continued dedication to scholarship, research, and service at the University of Regina.

Dear members of the campus community,

I am pleased to announce the initiation of a search for a new Associate Vice President (Research). While the search will be limited to tenured University of Regina faculty, it will be an open search that includes a campus-wide presentation from each of the short-listed candidates and an opportunity for the campus community to provide feedback.

The search will be conducted according to the provisions of the university’s policy on out-of-scope administrative positions available here.  A position description is available on the search webpage available here.  The position is open to University of Regina academic staff members holding tenured appointments at the rank of associate professor or professor. The anticipated term of appointment is five years, beginning September 1, 2020, and renewable under the terms of the policy linked above.

Applications should include (1) a cover letter responding to the accountabilities and requirements set out in the position description, (2) and a current curriculum vitae. References will only be required for short-listed candidates. Applications should be sent to karen.walker@uregina.ca and are due by June 25, 2020.
