Update 5

December 22, 2020

The Search Advisory Committee met December 18, 2020, and determined that a review of applications will commence early in the new year.

Further updates on the progress of this search will be posted as necessary.

Update 4

December 2, 2020

The Dean of Nursing Search Advisory Committee has finalized the position description and it is available for viewing here. Anyone interested in applying can do so here. Review of applications will commence at the Committee's next meeting, scheduled on Friday, December 18, 2020.

This position is being posted and circulated nationally to a variety of mailing lists, academic publications, and other recruitment venues. Colleagues in Nursing are again invited to send Bryanna Butz (bryanna.butz@uregina.ca) the names and email addresses of individuals who may be suitable candidates for the Deanship. The Provost will reach out to these individuals directly.

Update 3

November 20, 2020

The membership of the Search Advisory Committee has changed. Though Mr. Billy Heaman is now in a term APT position, the majority of his CUPE colleagues have endorsed his continuation on the SAC as their representative. The Faculty of Nursing CUPE staff and Mr. Heaman will consult as appropriate and necessary.

Ms. Jennifer Kramer has had to resign her position on the SAC as one of the faculty representatives. With the good advice of several Faculty of Nursing faculty members, the two individuals who put their names forward to fill this vacancy, have both been appointed faculty representatives on this SAC. As of November 18, I welcomed Ms. Michell Jesse and Ms. Dominque Rislund to this SAC. As you will recall, we had initially requested five faculty representatives but only four had put their names forward. With the recent vacancy and the interest of two faculty members, this SAC is now comprised of the initial five faculty representatives we had agreed to. I will be meeting with both Ms. Jesse and Ms Rislund to bring them up-to-date on the progress of the search thus far.

This SAC had their first meeting this past Monday, November 16. Much was accomplished at this meeting and I am pleased to report that the position description is near complete. Once finalized, the position description will be posted to this webpage and advertised to a number of various venues.

Update 2

October 14, 2020

The Faculty of Nursing has agreed to the initial timeline discussed
at the October 6, 2020 meeting. With some minor adjustments to
the Search Advisory Committee (SAC) Composition, I am pleased
to confirm with you the SAC membership.

  • Ms Jennifer Kramer (Faculty member)

With the Committee now in place, the first meeting of this SAC will
be scheduled very soon.

Update 1

October 5, 2020: Email to the Faculty of Nursing

Dear faculty, staff, and students in the Faculty of Nursing,

As you will know, Dr. Evans was appointed as Interim Dean
by Dr. Chase as of April 1, 2020. Dr. Evans's term will end
on June 30, 2021.

I look forward to meeting with you tomorrow to discuss the search
process for the next Dean of Nursing. In preparation for that meeting,
I want to share with you a proposed Search Advisory Committee
composition, and a proposed search timeline.

The search will be conducted according to University policy on out-of-scope
senior appointments, which is available for consultation at
https://www.uregina.ca/policy/browse-policy/policy-EMP-010-030.html.

I want to stress that, at this point, these are suggestions for discussion. Dates,
in particular, are subject to change. Given that the Faculty of Nursing has major
presences in both Regina and Saskatoon, we will discuss means of ensuring that
all members of the faculty, staff, and the student body have their voices heard.

I look forward to your input on these suggestions at our upcoming meeting.

Proposed composition of the Search Advisory Committee (SAC)

  • 4 or 5 academic staff members elected by the academic staff in the Faculty (elected or appointed by means determined by academic staff members)
  • 1 APT member elected by APT staff in the Faculty
  • 1 CUPE member elected by CUPE staff in the Faculty
  • 1 undergraduate student and 1 graduate student elected or selected by the respective student organizations
  • Deans' Council Representative, appointed by the Chair
  • Representative from Sask Polytechnic
  • External Representatives from the Professional Community, eg., SRNA
I will chair the Committee, which will be supported by Bryanna Butz in my office and by Nancy Kazeil from Human Resources.

Tentative search timeline

  • By 14 October: SAC in place
  • By 30 October: First meeting of SAC held
  • By 13 November: Position description finalized
  • By 20 November: Advertising under way; position description circulated electronically
  • Early January: SAC begins review of applications, establishes long/medium list
  • End of January: SAC establishes short list; candidates are contacted and arrangements for virtual campus visits and interviews are made
  • Weeks of 8 and 15 February: Interviews and virtual campus visits (both campuses) for shortlisted candidates
  • By 5 March: SAC makes recommendation regarding preferred candidate; negotiations with preferred candidate commence
  • By 1 April: Announcement of new Dean, with appointment to take effect on 1 July 2021
